DVC FAQ on this site has a rundown of the cancellation rules, I might be wrong, but I thought I saw it there.
Canceling a DVC resort vacation, easy, if you are more then 30 days out, the points are returned to where they camefrom with no penelty or incumberance at all.
If that cancellation is less then 30 days out, the points go into a holding account where they can only be used for reservations less then 60 days away.
Concierge or Disney collection, or a cruise also. Once points are allocated to one of these, they can never be used for a DVC resort again. If you cancel one of these, and different hotels or uses may actually have different cancelation policies, the points change, kind of like Transformers, they are now "Reservation Points", they can only be used for a concierge collection, World of Disney hotel, or cruise. I am not certain, but I think they would follow the same expiration that the original, untransformed, points had. I do not believe they can be banked or transfered.
"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx, pretty sick, huh?
