Cancelling Air Canada flight

I have been recently advised that i can not take previously approved vacation and have to cancell my air canada flight. Has anyone had any luck getting a full or partial flight credit? I did book non-refundable.

Also can you hold the credit or do you have to rebook something right away?

I did that last spring. We got a flight credit, less the change fee. It had to be used within 1 year of the original booking. Tthe flight I cancelled was for March, but booked in November, so I had to use it before November.

Same for us. When we cancelled the credit - the change fee remained on the account and had to be used within one year of the date the orginal flight was booked, not dates of the cancelled trip.

I could be wrong, but usually companies will reimburse you if they approve the vacation and then take it back and you already paid for a vacation. Again you may be with a private company but it may be something to look into. Even if they cover certain fees that you would have to pay. Just my 2 cents worth.

I've done it too. At that point I couldn't do it on line though, and could never get through on the phones, so I went in to the airport. I had everything set out and it took them about 2 hours to figure it out.... But this is PEI and the agents at the airport are NOT used to doing that I guess. I'm not sure if you can do it on line now, but it would be much easier.

$75 each way - per person - change fee and one year to use the balance of the credit. You will also have to pay any fare difference of course when you rebook something.
