do you have to? What happens if we decide not to go to an ADR -- anything?

I know this has been asked and answered before but honestly, I am not a good finder of threads.

TIA

No, there isn't a penalty or anything for canceling or not canceling and then not showing up.

However, if you know you're not going to use an ADR, please do cancel it so that someone else can get it!:thumbsup2

Hi,

Well, you don't have to, but it would be nice to cancel so someone else can get your spot.

If you have given a credit card (for CRT, for example) you will lose your deposit if you don't cancel.

I agree that cancelling your reservation is the considerate thing to do. You can stop by the concierge desk of any WDW hotel and ask them to cancel it for you, if you don't have time to call Disney Dining.

Thanks -- I was thinking in the event that we got stuck somewhere and couldn't make it. Have never ever had any trouble before making ADRs but there could always be a first.

Also if you book somewhere like California Grill, they take your credit card number when you book, and they told me that if you cancel within 24 hours of the reservation or do not show up, they will charge your card $20.

If you prepaid for the ADR (HDDR or CRT for example), you won't forget to cancel it as you will lose your refund inside of 48 hours.

Aside from that, courtesy would suggest that you cancel it as they are holding a spot for you that could easily be filled if it were to become available.

CRT, California Grill, the Akershus princess meals, and dinner shows require either prepayment with a cancellation window or a credit card guarantee. If you don't cancel these within the stated cancellation window, and you just don't show up, there will be a charge. For CRT and the dinner shows, you may lose your entire payment. For CG and Akershus, there is a per person no show charge.

Otherwise, there are no overt penalties for a no-show on an ADR. There are plenty of posts about cancelling for reasons of basic courtesy.

We have had emergencies come up... like a little one getting sick at the parks and us needing to get back to the room asap and have not been able to cancel our ADR in time. They don't penalize you for this unless you had to make a deposit but if you do know in plenty of time to cancel and can cancel, please do as ADRs are getting harder and harder to get.
