Cancelling a night question

Theres a 65 min wait to talk to a CM this morning so I thought someone here might be able to help with a question as I'm a new member.

I currently have 120 points in 2017 with an April UY. Home resort SS.
I was going to bank those points now so that I can use them when I book our trip at the 7 month window for a 7 night stay starting April 20, 2018 at a resort other then my home if possible. The only thing is that we might have to cut that trip short to a 5 night stay. If I book this trip and have to cancel 2 of those nights before the 4 month window will those points go back into my banked set?

The system should use the banked points first for any reservation. Banked points stay in the UY that they were banked into and will expire at the end of the UY.

Required cancellation timeline for points to be returned to your account without holding status restrictions is 31 days or more, not 4 months.

So if you book your April 2018 trip it should use your banked 2017 points first and complete the reservation with current 2018 points. If you later cancel 2 nights either off the front or back end of the reservation 31 days or more in advance of check in the points that are returned should be any 2018 points followed by banked 2017 points. They will be unrestricted and follow normal rules where the banked points will need to be used by March 31, 2019 or they will expire and any 2018 points will need to be used by March 31, 2019 or banked into your 2019 UY by Nov 30, 2018.

If you were to cancel 30 days or less before check in then the points would be placed under holding status and would expire if not used by March 31, 2019. You also need to book any reservation with them 60 days or less prior to check in. If one cancels on the day of check in then all points are lost.
