We cancelled our trip since our daughter has the flu. Yes, what a bummer for the whole family, but I just want her to get better. I cancelled our southwest tickets and they are now ticketless funds. I purchased travel insurance. Will they actually give us a refund with travel insurance?

You should be able to get a refund on the airfare if that is covered on the policy. Call them and request a claim form.

What a bummer. But you were right to cancel. My step daughter just got over the flu & neighbor next door has it bad.

I pray your daughter gets to feeling better & you all get to Disney soon.

I would not be surprised if you have to wait for the refund until the ticketless funds expire.

Technically, you are not "out" the money yet. You were issued a credit that can still be used by you for new tickets, so you do not yet need to be reimbursed for money lost.

If the insurance company paid out, then you would basically have MORE than what you are out...a refund on the tickets AND the ticketless travel funds.

I purchased travel insurance through travel insured for the price of the whole trip which included air. As it turned out, disney didn't charge a cancellation fee since she had h1n1. So my insurance doesn't have to pay anything for that. The only thing is that we have airfare left. We'd like to have our money back instead of ticketless travel that we'd have to use before July which is the date of purchase. We have 700 credit from Southwest and we don't know if using it before that date is going to be doable. Our kids are in sports and we're a typical run like crazy family. It's hard to pindown dates that we can actually get away. That's another reason why we are all so bummed!

I had travel insurance on 2 airline tickets for me and my mom. She died before the trip. I called AirTran and they refunded her ticket right away. They said I would have a year to use the credit on my ticket. I filed the insurance claim and got the money back, I didn't have to wait. I don't know for sure, but they may contact the airline to cancel the credit.
