American cancelled our 4:30pm flight out of Moline to MCO on March 11, 2017. They rescheduled us for a 6am flight out that morning. We chose the 4:30pm flight because the morning flight wasn't going to work. When I go to American's website it doesn't show any later flights. There is one later morning flight we can make work. Will they let us change to that one without charging us? Everything I see it looks like they are going to charge us. I don't feel that is right since we didn't get to choose the replacement flight.

I was curious so I googled and found some interesting resources:

https://www.aa.com/content/images/travelInformation/travelHelp/041610_AmericanWay_OSO.pdf

http://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...ne-passenger-rights-canceled-flight/82985344/

https://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/fly-rights

From the first link from AA:
“If your originally scheduled flight was canceled and you decide not to travel, you can receive a full refund. To arrange for a refund, visit AA.com, call your travel agent, or call AA Reservations.”

Go online and choose one or two that work for you. Call them and nicely request to be put on your chosen flight. Stay on the phone while they get you seats.
I've never been charged in a situation like you described. I always call right away when I know I'm going to be dealing with a change.

Yes, you can call and ask to be moved to the new flight you want without charge. You also have the right to a full refund.

Thanks everyone. We have never had this happen and one of the people going with us had to work that morning and her work is not believing us that they changed our flight. She can't believe they would do that and that there isn't anything for the afternoon. We live 2 hrs from the airport. I have checked and they got rid of all the afternoon flights and only have the morning ones available.

I suppose if her boss thinks she's telling a tall tale she can show her/him the email from the American Airlines with the change information.
It's always an option to drive to the airport city the evening before and spend the night at a nearby hotel. That way you don't have to get up so early on the day of your flight.

I don't think there is any need for your co-worker to believe you when you got the airline to re-change your flight for you and no need to tell tall tales. There is no guarantee that the airline would re-change her flight for her.

Still it is worth picking alternate flights that would work better for you as soon as possible and make the request for a free re-change.

Me? If the airline changed the schedule and also refused me a re-change to flights that work better for me and still exist, then I would escalate the issue to higher up on the airline's chain of command.

Yup, just call the airline. You shouldn't have any problem at all getting put onto the later morning flight.
I'm sorry this happened though - it stinks when you have things planned and they get changed! Hopefully once the flights are worked out, you can enjoy a few extra hours of magic in Orlando :-)

Do keep an eye on your flights, though...you're not flying until next March and its possible they will change again.

I have AA flights booked from PHL to FLL for next March...purchased last September. My flights have changed twice so far. New flight numbers and times, though they have only shifted about 10-15 minutes. I would not be surprised to see them change at least two more times before we fly.
