Hello all...just heard from DCL regarding our cancelled cruise from 11/30. I wrote to them to find out what kind of refund we would get since everything was changed from our origional booking. They wrote back they were sorry for all the confusion and sorry it took so long to get back to us....but they feel that what we got for the replacement of our 7 day cruise was more expensive than our cruise. In other words, we paid top dollar for everything we got....as if we booked at the last minute...instead of Disney cancelling our cruise....we are going back on the 5/10 Magic....and quite frankly, I am tired of writing and fighting with them. I do enjoy sailing with them...look forward to it each and every time. Some people got great deals, some people did not. I don't know where we sit when it comes to us....but the thought of writing another letter just does not make any sense to me....so, like a lot of other people I guess I just have to be satisfied with what we got and move on.....but a word to the wise...if it ever happens again know exactly what you are getting and what you will be getting back...since after the vacation is over they have no obligation to give you anything....but, I still look forward to it and they do a good job for the most part!

Hi Tom, I am confused. Aren't they still going to give you the 50 percent off the May cruise? I thought you still vacationed with them in november, that they through in meals since you would have been fed on the ship. Maybe I am thinking of the wrong person. Or were you the one who paid for your own trip and was taking the full refund? If so why haven't they sent you your money by now?

Hi Tom....

What happened again on your sailing - sorry must have missed that.

Was the cruise cancelled and what did you do instead?

Thanx

Disneys stance the whole time has been "Under most circumstances, if we made alternate arragnements for the week of November 30, 2002, we would not extend the 50% discount on a future sailing". I do want to stress the word MOST. Every time I made a change or recieved a refund I asked for the persons name and for a faxed confirmation. They had no problem with either.
As I posted in an earlier thread (Cancelled Nov. 30th cruiser, has anyone heard from Disney yet?), the people who were persistant but polite and negotiated out a package then and there and didn't demand specific $$$$ amounts seemed to get the most. I was a cancelled cruiser and still went to Disney and took the Dec 1 Wonder. I does look like Disney is taking care of people on an individual basis, I was expecting "form" letters in return, but they were personalized with their true concern for my satisfaction.

DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ! Disney/DVC/DCL treated people differently with this cancelled cruise.
Im trying to put it behind me and look forward to our future cruise but it's threads like this that get me aggravated all over again.

Barb,

don't get too excited!!! I too have chimed in on all of the 11/30 cancelled cruiser posts. I originally sent a letter to DCL expressing my disappointment in their handling of our situation. Received a response five weeks later which was well below what I felt was fair.. In a moment of weakness, I did respond to their response two days ago on a number of points.

I don't expect much in response, but any organization needs to know when their cusomers feel they are doing good and not so good.

Still have some minor inkling to reschedule for 11/29/03, but in our circumstance, the cost for an equivalent cabin as we had reserved on the 11/30/02 Magic, even after the 50% discount, is multiple hundreds of dolars more expensive. Doesn't seem right to me...

mac_tlc,

My trip went up about 650.00 for the 4 of us. Of that there is an increase of 200.00 because one of my daughters will be 13 rather than the 12 last year. I believe this is new pricing. So with my 50% off it went up about 60.00 a person. See ya on the cruise!!!

Don't give up on working on Disney for getting something for the cancelled cruise. I finally worked everything out with them last night and booked for 11/29/03 at 50% off. Sent two letters (Disney said they never received the first one even though it was sent certified) and had TA make a few calls to them.

bffttsiu ,

Congratulations on your success... I have received no response to my second letter, sent weeks ago. We finally booked 11/8/03 Western with DVC points (using the 50% discount) becasue we had to plan something or risk losing the 50% completely. By the time DCL ever responds, it may be too late for me to do anything. Getting time off at work can't be done at the last minute, so the response time has been a big problem. Frankly, I held (hold) out little hope that their eventaul response will be of value......

I don't want to get people upset all over again, but, can I ask why Disney cancelled a cruise???? I have never heard of it, and I am very curious what reasons they can have for dissapointing thousands of people.

To spare a great deal of pain I will tell you.
The Norwalk Virus had effected the magic fro two previous sailing. Many many people were ill. Disney pulled the ship for a week to thourougly santize it, change the mattresses etc. Unfortuneatly a great many people were effected by the cancelled cruise.
