Cancellation time?

To cancel a dining reservation without being charged, does it have to be done a full 24 hours in advance or just before midnight day before?

We have cancelled before midnight for the next day, but safer to cancel 24 hours in advance.

Most of the discussion I have seen refers to midnight as the cutoff to cancel. I don't believe there is any 24hr requirement.

We've cancelled 10pm the day before for a 130pm lunch the next day and was not charged

It is before midnight, however I did have trouble cancelling a reservation or two that was less than 24h. It came up on my app that I had to call to cancel (which I did). Thought I would let you know that's something you might be directed to do. I'm not sure if it was just a glitch or not.
