It is looking less and likely by the day that we'll be able to go on our trip this summer due to the Canadian re-entry requirements and the slow pace of vaccinations in Canada. I know if we cancel any banked or borrowed points we used have to stay in this use year but can we bank this year's points we used in our reservation into next year? I assume yes but want to understand my options. We're still inside our booking window. TIA

As long as you cancel in time to do banking -- which can be done no later than the end of the eighth month of your use year, you will be able to bank any current use year points that are in the reservation.

Already banked points will remain banked when they come out of the reservation. However, as long you cancel by no later than April 30, all borrowed points, after cancellation, will be returned to their original use year. That covid-related rule that allows borrowed points to be returned to original use year expires at end of day April 30.

Well now I'm really happy I asked, I'll have to make my decision soon then. Thanks a lot for the help

And, I’d be sure to give yourself a cushion to cancel prior to April 30th as the website is funny and knowing you have borrowed points at play, I wouldn’t risk an issue!

We were supposed to be having a big family trip to WDW with my sisters family this summer. Planning to meet with them this weekend (virtually of course) to discuss so will probably decide then. Thanks for the tip.

Follow up question - when I cancel online will my borrowed points automatically return to my 2022 UY?

I adjusted several reservations in the last few weeks and some automatically went back but there were a few points that I called to get assistance with returning.

So your mileage could vary.

It’s not automatic. Once you’ve cancelled you can chat with member services and ask them to un-borrow the points.

I just thought I would follow up, I did cancel the reservation on Saturday and the points were returned to my 2022 UY automatically by today. It may have happened quicker than that but I didn't check until today.
