Cancellation policy - anyone charged for late cancellation?

Has anyone experienced being charged for canceling too late? I'd love to hear experiences of people who cancelled and were not charged, or were charged.

I am thinking of making only one or two character ADRs and winging the rest, since it sounds like you cannot even cancel the day before (for example, a CP breakfast reservation cannot be cancelled at noon the day before, from what I understand. Is this correct?)

I really think Disney is going too far with this. But if it makes walking into a restaurant with no ADR possible, I'm all for it!

I haven't had any experiences either way but there are plenty of restaurants that you'll need an ADR for that don't charge any cancellation penalities.

It's pretty much just the Character meals and the signature restaurants that do. You'll most likely still find that you can't get into a character meal without an ADR.

So you can still book many ADR's without worrying about paying cancellation fees.

On the Disney website under the dining FAQs it says that you can cancel without penalty the day before (e.g. for a Thursday res you cancel up to Wed close of day.) Here's a link to the FAQs:

As far as the restaurants with the cc guarantee they are the dinner shows, CRT, signatures, V&A and any restaurant with a character meal. There's a sticky at the top of this page with a list of the restaurants.
