Cancellation penalties

Sorry to ask about this here, but I can't wait for MS to open tomorrow!

We have a reservation at BCV for September. After our wonderful cruise, which we got back from yesterday, we have decided to cancel our BCV booking as we have booked another cruise in September instead. Some of the points we used were borrowed.

I know the borrowed points can't be returned to their original use year but are there any restrictions on using the cancelled points - other than they must be used by the end of the current use year (Sept 30th) Can they be used for an II reservation should we be able to get one for our son?

This answer is based purely on my understanding, not on any hard proof - I think the points can be used just like any other points as long as they are within the restrictions you've already mentioned, as well as any restrictions set out by II that would apply to any points. I'm not aware that being cancelled points makes them any different for the purpose you're proposing.

I've just been reading up on cancellations since I should be going next Sunday, and my friend and travelleing companion is currently residing in hospital waiting for surgery on a shattered elbow

Most of the points are borrowed points but in this case, if I am correct, they will go into a holding account and can only be used within a 60 days of booking and before the end of my use year. I've not cancelled yet just in case (unlikely I know) they say after the op, 'Right it's done, a holiday will do you good, off you go'.
