Cancellation of a 2BR lockoff at BCV

I have a question. I am going to start booking next week for a family vacation/Christmas trip to Disney for this year. I am planning to book 2- 2bedroom lockoffs to accomodate everyone but still give some privacy by having the lock off rooms.

This is my question. If for some reason someone has to cancel at some point prior to the trip and I cancel the ressie for 1 of the 2 bedrooms will MS then let me automatically book a 1 bedroom or a studio that was associated with that lockoff since I had the room already? Don't know if this question makes sense or not. I am just trying to find out if I have an option to decrease the size of the room since the resort will almost certainly be booked up at that point since Christmas is such a busy time of the year.

What do you think?

Thanks

Susie

I think I understand what you are saying. They will if inventory is such that when you release the portion you don't need, that it does not go into wait list. However if it does then the person who is wait listed for it, gets it instead.

The question makes perfect sense, but the answer is "Nope!"

What happens in that case is you cancel your original reservation. Then...IF they can, MS will book you in the new villa you want. However...December is a very rough time and there is likely to be a waiting list, especially if you are within the seven-month window when anyone can book there. If there is a waiting list, the vacated room(s) go to the first people on the waiting list.

The scenario you describe is one of those weird situations where you are probably better off getting a one-bedroom and a studio. Yeah, yeah, we know it's more points, but you will have a LOT less difficulty if a cancellation occurs. Not for nuthin', you'll also probably be more comfortable with two separate rooms.

Yes I have looked at the studio/1 BR option but then my fear is that we will have rooms scattered all over the resort. I thought if I have only 2-2bedrooms then I have a better chance of having them close together.

How good are they at keeping a party's room together? Also I understand that dedicated 2beds are preferred to a lock off so is the resort pretty good at giving you the lock off if you ask for it? When you book the 2Bed is your confirmation for a lockoff/dedicated or do they decide that when you get there?

Sorry for all the questions, we just usually stay at OKW since I love it there and a 1BR works for us there. :)

You may not even be able to book a 2 bedroom lock off. DVC will want to book the dedicated 2 bedroom units first and hold the lock offs to rent separately as studios and 1 bedrooms. Depoends on how they see the demand.

Room assignments just depend on what's available when your group checks in. If you request to be near each other, I'm sure they'll do their best. Sometimes they pre-assign/block requests like that ahead of time (especially in busy periods), but there's no guarantee.

Best wishes -

I don't personally have any experience with that, but what I've heard is they try pretty hard to put multi-room reservations as close together as they can. I've heard, that when they assign rooms, they do medical necessity rooms first, and then multi-room parties. I don't know how accurate that is, but I've heard it pretty consistently.

ETA: Having said that, you also have to understand that BCV is a small resort. That means their options to cluster your rooms together are going to be much more limited than they would be at OKW, SSR, or even BWV.

Every time we have had multiple rooms, they have been no further than a few rroms away from each other. (Of course now I cursed myself for next Thanksgiving now that I've said this). We always go at busy times and it has always worked out when we've done it.
