Uggggh! Since when did they start charging cancellation fees on their packages? Even though this has left me with a not so very magical feeling I guess I should have read the fine print......jerks

Here it is:

LAND CANCELLATION/CHANGE FEES: A fee is assessed each time a change and/or cancellation is made. The cancellation/change fees are per reservation and are as follows:

Days prior to arrival ..........Change.........................Cancel

*
31+ ...........................$0............................$100
*
30-0...........................$50...........................$200

This is actually nothing new, believe it or not. For packages, there will always be a penalty for cancellation, and the closer to the arrival date you cancel, the higher the penalty. I had to cancel a package a couple of years ago, to the tune of $100!! That is the policy of the Walt Disney Travel Comany, which handles all the packages, whether overtly or covertly. If you book directly through Central reservations - better known as Room Only - there will be no penalty for cancellation if you cancel outside of 5 days prior to arrival. You can even add in tickets to your Room Only reservation and it will not be considered a package, but as soon as there is that pesky 'package' label on the reservation, it takes it to a different category and there will be cancellation penalties or fees to make changes to your reservation. Room Only/Central (reservations) doen't penalize you to make changes.

Like Sherry said, these have been around for a long time. On the change fees, though, if you change to a more expensive package, you are typically not charged the change fee.

I believe it's $25 prior to 30 days for a change fee.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess I just took it for granted since WDW does not do the same:goodvibes

This is more accurate for the change/cancellation fees:

...............................Change............................Cancel
30+ .............................$25.............................$100
29-5.............................$50.............................$200
4-1...............................$75............................ 50% of package price

Here are the change/cancellation fees for WDW

Package Cancellation & Change Fees:

No refunds will be given to no shows.

Cancellation: If the reservation is cancelled, amounts paid, minus cancellation fees and other amounts owed, will be refunded. For a cancellation made 45 to 6 days prior to guest arrival, there is a cancellation fee of $100 per package, plus any cancellation fees assessed by hotels or other suppliers. For a cancellation made 7 days or less prior to guest arrival, there is a cancellation fee of $200 per package, plus any cancellation fees assessed by hotels or other suppliers; provided, however, that for a cancellation of a Grand Gathering experience add-on option made 5 days or less prior to the experience date, no refund will be given.

If you have any dates you could change to, perhaps that would be better than outright canceling?

Am I reading what you pasted right? $0 change fee outside of 31+ days? If that's right, that's actually better than it was before. I booked March '07 for our September '07 trip, and two times got sweetie-pie CMs who waived the change fees for me (which were clearly stated on my info), even when I dropped the package down a bit (not to be expected, but was a lovely surprise).

If the zero dollar thing had been in effect then I wouldn't have had to worry!

Sorry you are having to cancel!

When we did a package in 97, the fee's were there. Sorry.

Jack

We have only ever stayed onsite once at DL and of course never canceled and made any changes. I dont believe we have ever canceled a WDW package. Oh well lesson learned:goodvibes.
Once ROA gulch is filled and everything is up and running we will go back:goodvibes

Thanks for letting me know. I guess I just took it for granted since WDW does not do the same:goodvibes

Don't feel bad - I did the same thing - wasn't going to necessarily cancel, just wanted to make changes and I ended up leaving everything alone otherwise I would have incurred over $200 in charges..... That's okay will keep in mind for the future I guess.
