Cancellation and holding?

I have a reservation for the 11th jan I need to cancel, I know these points must go into holding but can someone tell me when I must use them by? is it 60 days?

Never had to make a cancellation before so not sure how it works.

They will expire at the end of your use year. You cannot bank them. And you can only use them to make a reservation 60 days out.

I borrowed the points from next years allocation, (my use year is March) so would these points need to be used by march?

for a completed stay by the night of feb 28, yes. banked/borrowed pts cannot be put back and expire at the end of their new UY.

that's one of the reasons why it's very risky to travel late in your UY.

It's not really a problem for me as i've rented the points and now they can't go, they have paid in full so im just trying to help them out.

You have two things working together here. You have points in holding and you are also within the last four months of your use year. That means that both the holding account rules and the "rule of four" apply.

Holding Account Vacation Points. If a confirmed reservation is canceled thirty (30) days or less before the arrival date, the Home Resort Vacation Points used to make that reservation are placed into a Holding Account. "Holding Account Vacation Points" are subject to the following restrictions:

• Holding Account Vacation Points can only be used to book reservations within sixty (60) days of check in.
• Holding Account Vacation Points must be used for reservations during their Use Year. Any Holding Account Vacation Points remaining in the Holding Account at the end of the Use Year will expire.
• Holding Account Vacation Points cannot be Banked.
• Holding Account Vacation Points used to reserve and stay during the last 60 days of a Use Year may be used for reservations at any DVC Resort.

Rule of Four. You cannot book and travel on The Disney Collection, (excluding Disneyland© Resort Hotels in California and Tokyo Disney Resort®), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.

You can therefore use your points between now and the end of February at a DVC resort, limited hotels in the Disney Collection, or as an exchange with RCI. You cannot use them for the Concierge or Adventurer collections, or Disney Collection locations outside of California and Tokyo.
