Canceling WDW Resort and Staying Off-site

We currently have reservations at ASM in less than two weeks and already have FPs selected on MDE. We are now informed that we can use a relative's points to stay off-site. If we cancel, will we lose our FP selections?

Do you have a room only reservation with separately purchased tickets? If so, then you're fine... your FPs won't be impacted.
