Canceling Reservation Question

I am reading that if we cancel 31+ days before our reservation, points are returned with no penalty. My husband said he saw somewhere about 60 days and if cancellation is less than 60 days, the points go into holding. I think he’s confusing 2 things but said I’d ask the pros

Holding status only happens when you cancel less than 31 days before check in, Points are returned in the same way they were in the reservation. So banked and borrowed points are still banked and borrowed points.

Once points are in holding, that is when the 60 day rule applies…you can only use holding points to book trips 60 days or less from check in.
