Canceling last minute

I'm in the sad position of probably having to cancel our 10 day vacation, one day before we are scheduled to leave. It's a long story, but basically I will know at 2pm on Friday if our family can go on our trip starting Saturday or not. I don't want to go into details, suffice to say that the situation is out of my control.


Has anyone else had to cancel right before a trip? My understanding is that the points go into holding and we have until the end of our use year to use them.

We also have purchased the DDP, will that be canceled when I cancel the room reservation, or do I need to do that separately? I'm guessing that all of our ADR's will be automatically canceled.

So incredibly bummed about this, can't even put the disappointment into words.
 
You should cancel your DDP and ADR's now. You want to make sure that you get a refund on the DDP and any ADR's that required a deposit.

We had to cancel our trip less than a week out in February because our son was admitted to the hospital. Your points will go into holding and must be used by the end of the use year. You can use those to rebook another trip 2 months or less out. Not sure on the DDP and ADR's. Good luck.
 
I would have your ADR confirmation numbers handy, and make sure that Member Services cancels them during the call, I would not cancel the room reservation online, especially if it is some sort of medical reason you are canceling, and explain it to Member Services.
 

Thanks everyone. I'm going to Call me please MS about canceling the DDP today. I guess if we still get to go, we'll just use our TIW card. Hope the DDP is refunded quickly though.

Sorry for whatever the situation is. Rarely a good one when you have to cancel a vacation. But I do know that Disney usually says 7 to 10 business days to return funds on a credit card. So that should be done pretty quickly for you.
 
Woo! I just heard that there's a good chance that the thing preventing us from traveling will be postponed! So hoping this happens for sure tomorrow. Glad I haven't canceled anything yet!

I'm so glad it worked out for you! We were in the same situation earlier this month, not knowing if we were going or cancelling until the day before we left. We got to go after all and had a great time. I hope you have a wonderful stay too!
