canceling flights

we may have to cancel our flights for april, they are non-refundable. If this happens i would like to reissure them for next april but it will not be within 330 day time frame that you can book flights for. Any idea what I can do about this?

I would check with your airline. Many now are "use em or lose them".

Assuming you have discounted fare tickets you are probably in the group that requires you to reticket BEFORE you miss the first flight. Once that plane leaves the ground the ticket becomes worthless if you have not re-ticketed. The normal charge is $100 plus any change in the fare. And you probably will have to use them with 330 days. I would call your airline NOW and make sure you understand all the rules with your ticket.

This may or may not be the case anymore but I will share with you my recent exchange of tickets with USAir via Expedia. Last Feb I purchased 2 roundtrip tickets to Orlando for late June. I cancelled them in April after my wedding was cancelled (they were for the honeymoon). When I cancelled I was told that each ticket holder would retain whatever value remained on each ticket after the $100 charge on each ticket. That value was about $70-80 each in my case. We decided to go to WDW this Aug and I called Expedia to find out what I needed to do. I sent in my tickets and once they got them I called back and told them what flight I wanted on USAir and they exchanged the tickets. I paid the difference. I'm not sure what dates they used - when I bought the tickets or when the ticket was for since I bought the new ticket just under 1 yr from when I had purchased the original but the new travel date is more than one yr from the original travel date.

The policy where you have to have them reticketed before the departure date just started in the past few months, I'm not sure of the date. If you bought tickets before that date, the old rules apply (have to be reticketed within a year).

thanks for all the replies. Hopefully we will still be going but have a terminally ill brother so we are trying to plan as best we can. We are booked on delta express and it is a 50$ reissue I found out today and i may have bought them just before the date change i'll have to double check that
