Canceling borrowed points

I borrowed some point to add an extra day to our stay.Now I may have to cancel that day.
What is the policy on cancelling using borrowed points?

The borrowed points will be returned to the UY that the reservation was to take place in. They must be used by the end of that UY or they will expire.

If you used a combination of current and borrowed points for the reservation, they should be able to adjust the reservation to use the borrowed points first so it would free up the current points - that you could potentially bank.

Example - your original reservation was 100 points (80 current and 20 borrowed). You add a day and need to borrow 20 more points (reservation now requires 120 points). You later cancel a day so you only need 100 points for the reservation. MS should be able to use the 40 borrowed points and 60 current points and return 20 to you in the current year.

That's exactly what I did last year when I needed to cancel one reservation and book a new one for fewer points. MS was very helpful and helped walk me through the process. It was also helpful that I did the cancelation and rebooking on the same call.

As long as you cancel more than 30 days out there are no restrictions on using the points- they will however retain the use year of the trip if they were borrowed or banked points.

Yes, since you used the points to book a DVC resort stay.

If you had used points to book a non-DVC stay, the situation would be very different. Those points would go back into your account, but as Reservation Points -- meaning they could only be used for non-DVC accommodations.
