If I need to bank by September 30 but book a trip for November and cancel in October what happens to my points?

The points would need to be used before the end of your UY. In your case, that would mean booking a reservation with a last night no later than Jan. 31 for a Feb. UY.

ETA: If you cancel 30 days or less before the November arrival date, those points go into holding.

If the reservation includes any borrowed points those would also need to be used by the end of your UY as that is a final transaction. If the points go into holding, then not only will they need to be used by January 31st but also won’t be eligible for booking more than 60 days in advance. And since December is pretty well booked, that would only leave you January as a real possibility to schedule a trip. It’s one of the drawbacks of traveling more thAn 30 days after your banking window.

And if planning a backup vacation within that time frame isn't an option (assuming your points didn't go into holding), look at renting them out so that it's not a total loss. That way you should at least be able to get back what you paid in dues for the UY.

I have just found out about the need for surgery that will impact out October 2019 trip. 188 points at Copper creek. Banking deadline was 7/31. Should I even bother asking Member Services for an exception?

You might be able to rent that reservation out. All of the brokers take existing reservations or you could try your luck on a FB group if you want to do it yourself.

But if you would rather have the points, then throw yourself on the mercy of the MS CM and hope for the best. With a December UY, you have a very slim chance of rescheduling a trip using those points before they expire.

Throw yourself at the mercy of the court, and ask MS for an exception.

But, being Copper Creek, I bet you can rent it out via one of the brokers or redweek.

as @Marionnette said, you have very little chance of getting to use those points. You may be able to cobble something together(in November), but it might be a lot of switching resorts

MS will sometimes give you a once in a lifetime chance to late bank your points. Call and ask. You won't be any worse off with them saying no, but you'd be ahead if you could.

Even *IF* we were able to book in November wouldn't matter because I would still be recovering and unable to walk. Calling MS in the morning. After I sacrifice a chicken. 🐓

Good luck, and best of luck with your surgery.

I think you will be able to rent out the entire ressie but act quickly. SWGE can work to your advantage, and 2 months is enough time for ppl to throw a trip together.

We've decided our best option is going to be to rent. This is our FIRST TIME renting and would appreciate any and all advice. I'd like to set up something ASAP with a broker since we've never rented before.

Who have you had good experiences with either as a renter or renter? Who or what is "redweek"?
Any tips when working with a broker?

I have never rented out points or rented points. Broker is probably easier and safer.
Redweek is like airbnb just for time shares.
I have a sister who has rented BLT from someone there, and another who had rented at Bonnet Creek.

If you do a google search for DVC Rental the first 2 that come up I have had experience with. I have rented points from another DVC owner as well as rented out my existing reservations. It is pretty easy process. Go to one of the sites, input your information regarding the reservation and some of your DVC information. They will send you a contract by email for you to accept. Then when they get an interested buyer, the brokerage will contact you and ask you when you can contact MS. Once you say you can contact MS, they will send you the information regarding the guests, you call MS and make the changes. Depending on the site you will get about 70% the balance owing you once the reservation is confirmed by all parties and the remaining balance upon successful check in by the guest.
