Canceling a Reservation

How soon after a reservation is canceled do those points show back in your account for availability? Thank you

Immediately. (Note that if the points used for the cancelled reservation were transferred from another membership or if they were one-time-use points purchased from MS, they will not show up in your online acount. To reuse those points, you would need to call MS)

Do you happen to know if those points will be used for a online reservation? So if I purchase one time use points for a reservation but then cancel and rebook another week (same total points), will it book or ask me to borrow so I can book?

You have to call MS to rebook if you want to use the OTU points that were returned to your account from a cancellation. OTU points are not available to you for online booking. (My GUESS is that if you try to book online, the system will either prompt you to borrow or deny the booking for lack of points if you don't have points to borrow). OTU points expire at the end of your use year.
