Cancel/banking scenario

I've never cancelled and/or banked before; I've been reading the member site and am now thoroughly confused, so I'm turning to the points experts for help.

My use year is June. I have a 60 point reservation at AKV from 3/8/09 to 3/12/09, made with borrowed points from my 09 use year. My 50% banking deadline is on the 28th of this month.

I'll be spending a fair bit of this trip visiting with friends in the area, and one of my friends has offered the use of their guest room. It'd actually be more convenient to be up there, and I'm considering cancelling at least part of my AKV reservation.

I know that if I cancel now, my points go into holding status and must be used before May 31st of this year. My question is, can I still bank those into the 09 use year? I'm thinking that that's not possible, since they were borrowed points?

Points that have been borrowed can not be returned to their UY. So, any you borrowed from June 09 for this March reservation, are stuck. I am not sure (being a new member) what you are referring to about the 50% banking deadline. I thought June UY had to bank points by January 31st.

Since you are in the 30 day window for your trip, these 60 points can only go in a holding account to be used for a trip in April or May. None of the points in holding can be banked or borrowed. Hope this helps.

There is no longer the 50% banking window. You now have until the end of the 8th month to bank 100% of points. As the PP said, once you borrow points they cannot not be banked or returned to the original use year. Any unused borrowed points will expire at the end of the use year they are borrowed into. As the other posters have said, there is no longer a tiered banking deadline. It is all or nothing, it changed either in 2007 or 2008.

I decided to split the trip and cancel a couple days off my reservation. Hm, wonder if I can fit in a weekend trip between now and the end of May....
