Are there any Canadians here who have participated in the International college Program? Bonus if they were from Quebec!

My daughter, who is currentl 14 is giving it a lot of thought. Granted, she'll only be eligible in 4 years, but we're finding it confusing to figure out where to start with this. What programs can be taken, how do you go about it? And most particularly, what schools support the program? Clearly there are lots of young Canadians down there.

On a QUEBEC-specific side of things, I guess she would need to complete CEGEP before being eligible and then be attending a participating University?

:confused3:confused3:confused3

I know you apply through 'yummy jobs' but there's some info here ...

https://www.disneyinternationalprograms.com/gate_canada.html

My DD did it 3 years ago and is about to head back and work in the Cultural Rep program in May for 1 yr! She worked in the Haunted Mansion and LOVED IT!!!!
She made the best friends and many of them are heading back too!

Good Luck!

Cool! And how did it work as far as education goes? I guess she needed to be enrolled in a college already? Obviously, according to the the site, she would have to be 18. How many classes do they take? There's limited information on the site, and we're trying to figure out what the prerequisites are for a Canadian.

( I guess when the time comes, as she is still young, we'll email Yummy Jobs )

My daughter was in University here at the time..they don't take classes at Disney. I think there are classes affiliated with some U.S College's but not with Canadian ones. I could be wrong..but I seem to recall that's the way it was at least.

I emailed my DD..she told me this

you can take courses through Disney University, but they're not accredited. There are other courses that are offered there through US universities, but it's typically only through US CP or another version of the ICP which lasts 7 months

Not sure if that helps?

I think so :) ... How long was SHE there for? And she was in mid-university when she went? How did that affect her program back home? Did she have to take a break from school to go I guess?

I think she went in the summer between years 3 and 4?

May to the end of August so she was fine, missed no school. In fact, Disney came to her University to recruit which is where she 1st became aware of the program I think?

My daughter is almost 15 and can't wait to do the Cultural Representative Program - with me! Yep, when she's done high school, we are going together for a year - I applied last fall and almost went (made it to the face to face interview, but cancelled my appt.), but we couldn't bear the thought of a year apart, so I'm waiting for her so we can live our dream at Disney together!

I am heading out May 1st for my first ICP.

The summer program requires that you be enrolled in College or University, be at least 18, be available for the summer.

What you actually take it school doesnt matter.
The cultural representative program is a year long (I think?!) I think the requirement are similar.

There are more oppertunities however, some of which involve taking courses while you are there.

You can pretty much find everything on the website.

Yes, Cultural Rep is a year long unless you are waitlisted and then you could fill in for a shorter duration.

My daughter moves in May 4..GOOD LUCK!!

So you are basically going for the summer program only? And I guess applied through Yummy Jobs?

Like I said, for my daughter, it's still far out ( not before another 4 years ), but she wants to get as much info as possible before then. Of course, things could change in how it works in the next 4 years...

My understanding is the following......the ICP (international college program) in Canada is a 3 month term over the summer so as not to interfere with your studies. In the ICP program, you would have had to get your job through your school during Disney's recruitment process and you can work anywhere in the parks/resorts. In the CRP (cultural representative program) you work in the Canadian Pavillion at EPCOT usually for a 1 year placement and can apply for this job through your school or directly through the program.

DD starts Algonquin in Sept and it's on our radar. Hope she gets in.

My DD20 is there now on ICP and did not get this through her school. She started by asking her school and they had no info and were no help. When we were at WDW last August we asked CMs until we found someone that knew someone who could point us in the right direction.

The Disney International Programs is a great place to start. They are no longer using Yummy Jobs for Canadians. DD just kept watching the ICP website daily until the info came up that the recruitment had started - she started watching in September and I don't think it actually opened until October. She found out just before Christmas that she had been chosen for an interview, and then found out the first week of February that she had the job.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions! It was really tough to find info, especially with the switch from Yummy Jobs.

There is also the Cultural Representative program to look into if school isn't something that's happening for you.

The ICP is a shorter period of time, and you'll be working anywhere in the parks.

CR is working in the Canadian pav at Epcot and on a year long program with a year long visa. Same housing, pay and transportation stuff as the other program, but you're there longer!

This ghost thread is from more than 4 years ago which means the 14 year old daughter is now 18.

So what happened Xipetotec?

Has your daughter followed through on her desire to work at WDW?

Actually, she has not yet. I spoke to her about it recently and she says she still wants to ( Between the Internet and me, I think it was separation anxiety from the boyfriend ) and thinks she will try for it between CEGEP ( we live in Quebec ) and University.

I'm in New Brunswick and my 16 yr old son wants to apply for the Cultural Representative Program after he graduates. Does anyone here know where in Canada they do the face to face interviews? I'm wondering how far it is to travel. This is so exciting!!!

Elisa--our son is currently at WDW doing the Cultural Rep Program.
He had a choice to travel to Montreal or Vancouver for the interview.

He started his one year in June..he loves it :cool1:

It can be a long time between applying & starting a position--just so he has a heads up to start watching for application dates prior to graduation if he wants to start soon after he graduates. From the time our son applied to his start date was about 21 months. Applied in Sept 12, phone interview in the new year, in person interview in the spring of 13, found out several weeks later he was on the eligibility list, then in Sept 13 was a offered a June 14 start date. Lots of anticipation! They did end up offering him a second-earlier start date but he wanted to finish out his university year.

This interests me because I just learned that a friend's daughter did the DCP through recruiters at Queen's. My DD attends Guelph and as far as I know she hasn't heard anything about CP interviews there. I wonder if they only recruit at certain universities?

The IP is a little like first year University, lots of people come with boyfriends/girlfriends back home but not many keep them ;) There is an entire World Showcase of single, good looking people. Myself and DH included we know many couples who met on the program and have been married a decade or more.

One of our friends from the Canada pavillon is married to a member of Off Kilter and has been for about 15 years.

I would encourage her to contact them.

Back when I did the program (97) they recruited at colleges that had a travel/tourism program. But anyone could apply and interview (this was old school pre-internet practically). You have to be assertive and get out there.
