Any info./thoughts from any parents who have kids on IEPs or any teachers would be greatly appreciated.

I am posting this here instead of the disABILITIES board since I assume Canadian IEP format may differ then the US.

Under Assessment Accommodations, DDs IEP lists:
* Prompts to return student's attention to task

I am concerned this isn't quite enough for her and am hoping to add a statement something like:

* may rewrite test if unable to pay attention during task (or something like this). I fully understand that the new IEP format doesn't allow free script and that everything must be chosen from pull down menus.

Does anyone have any idea if there is a pre-writen statement on the IEP program that is similar to what I have just written? I really feel that she needs this accommodation but am getting nowhere with the principal yet. He says that the current assessment accommodation will cover that (can rewrite tests) but I'm not so sure.

Thank you

I cannot really help you with what your are asking, however I can give you some suggestion. Our DS who is know 14 has been on an IEP accomadation since he was in grade 4. Know he is in high school.
He to has problems paying attention. Some of the thing that has help him, is he wears a FM system. It allows him to only hear the teacher (Something to look into, if you want more info let me know and I can explain in further detail). In regards to tests. My son has never been allowed to rewrite a test but he has been allowed to write it in the special ed room and be giving more time to write in than the rest of his class. He also can ask for a scrib if needed and if someone is around to help him. He also had kids in his grade eight class that would write the test via open book in the special ed room. If the principle cannot help you, go directly to your school board. We had to do this for our son in grade 7 when the principle wasnt able to give us the information we needed. If you would like some more suggestion on how to help you child, let me know and I will give you some ideas that has helped our son.

They have some free script on my sons IEP.
You should set up a meeting and ask to get it added.

My son is also on IEP, I am part of the planning for it every year along with my son, and there is a spot for your comments etc. My son also takes tests in a quiet room, and his test are also accommodated to him. ie: shorter sentences and easier pharses to explain things. He also got longer times to write and able to ask for assistance/or explanation of what question is asking!
We are part of the whole process every year! Although he has rewritten a few tests, not to sure if that was part of the accommodation as half the class re wrote due to averages, it definetly is not stated on his IEP! Hope this helps!

I have a 12yo ds on an IEP and what we did (he has ADHD without the H and NLD) is put 'accomodations for testing' which gives a broader meaning. They also put down that he gets to write tests in a quiet location. The accomodations could be anything from someone to scribe to someone to read the questions to a verbal test to more time to write the test.

Good luck!!
