DH and I toured SSR last week and are seriously considering buying. Have you found any additional concers or issues that came up or have come up since you became members?

We are in the same boat as you and the only real issue I think about is the fluctuating excange rate. I can remember not too long ago the rate was over 1.40!!!

Also, I think that if you sell a timeshare in Canada there is an extra 10% fee on top of the commission to the closing company.

Other than that, I have not yet discovered anything and can't wait to read more posts.

I forgot to mention that I don't think you can pay your maintenance fees monthly either. You have to have a US account.

The only concern I had was when I paid for it the exchange rate was pretty cruddy. I could have saved around $2k if I waited a few months for a better exchange rate! UGH.. that's like an extra 20 points!

10% commission, plus 10% FRTPA (I think that's what the initials are) adds up to a big chunk of $$.

Just to clarify on the maintenance thing...you have to have a US account at a US bank..so no go. We just pay ours the once per year..I put our maintenace fees into USFunds every month or so, that way, it doesn't hurt so much right after Christmas

Thanks for the feedback so far. We actually have a US account at a US bank so we're okay there. But I haven't heard about this 10% thing before... can you provide more insight on that? Why does it exist? Who is it paid to? What is FRTPA?

I think your best bet is to call the TSS store and ask them about this.

They are the experts and I find them to be very forthcomming with info and very honest.
