Can you have US funds preloaded on these? And can you gift them to someone else? (Couldn't find the answers on the website)You can also check out Scotia Bank and BMO. ...they have prepaid visa and mc. ...they cost $10 a year and no fees and you can load up to 5k on them....

Thanks, that was what I thought from what I read. It would have been a perfect Christmas gift.no, these are Canadian cards, but you can use them in the states....they just convert if like your regular account. I don't think you can gift them as when you go into the bank, they take all your info and it takes a couple of days for it to be active....if you are with Scotia or BMO, you can load them like an account transfer....if not....you can set them up like a bill payment but it take a few days for it to process...
The Canadian Visa Debit cards are not the same as the visa debit cards in the US. They are not actual credit cards - because of that, I don't imagine they can be used for charging privileges like that.
I work for one of the Major 5 banks in Canada, and we always tell our clients that the visa debit is only for certain online retailers.
That;s weird cause MY bank told me that it would specifically would work in the manner the OP inquired about -- and it did! We used our TD Debit/Visa to run our room charges without an issue -- we also used it in the same manner on our cruise ship. We also used it in that manner while in the Bahamas.
I've noticed that since TD Bank already has branches in Florida most of my customers don't have issues using their debit/Visa card in Florida but many other Canadian cards don't work unless the person has notified their bank prior to travel where they will be. In fact since I'm in a tourist area that holds true for anyone trying to use their debit card as a credit card. Most are blocked unless they advise their bank ahead of time. It's all for their protection of course!!
