Just wondering if anyone's Car Insurance company is giving them any discounts?
(I'm driving once a week,,sometimes once every two weeks).:car:
Regards

I heard something g but not sure if Canadian or American .. I haven’t noticed anything yet

I did read an item yesterday about some insurance companies doing something, but I think you might have to phone and ask. I don't think they are applying any rebates across the board.

I know Desjardins is! You can apply for the discount from their website if you're only driving for essential purposes.

I emailed my broker to find out, I have a fairly good deal through my union at work, and am doubtful they will offer a discount, but you never know until you ask :)

We haven't got anything. My son bought his first truck a few months ago so we have 3 cars in the driveway and since I'm laid off 2 of them are just sitting there. Just try to move them and go for a quick drive once a week. Cars don't like to sit. We parked our CX9 for a month and ended up warping the front rotors.

Don't know about that but this is rather appropriate for this discussion i think :P

Is anyone else getting 3 weeks to a gallon now !!

I have the opposite issue.

My normal commute is <3 km each way.

However, my sister, who lives with me, normally takes public transit to/from work. She works in a pharmacy so is still working at the pharmacy 5d/wk. To reduce her risk I am now driving her to/from her work as much as possible [can't do it all the time as I am now WFH and sometimes the times don't align]. Her work is something like 28 km one way.

My car is not sure what happened to it and a tank of gas is good for about 8-9 days now, versus weeks before.

And I am trying to figure out how to get my winter tires switched to all season in the next few weeks when the dealership won't let you wait [which I don't want to do anyway]... but what would I do for the waiting time ??

I was thinking the same thing and then an ad popped up on my Facebook feed (seriously we had been talking about it at dinner and POOF there it was) for a local business that will come to your house and change your tires for you. They will even take the winter ones and store them, i had NO idea they even existed before last week and they've been doing this for 2 years! $40 to change your tires, $50 to change & store them, $70 for 2 cars, Free for seniors on Saturdays and they also do oil changes. They are offering contactless service right now, pay via e-transfer and just leave the tires where they can access them while you watch.

Maybe try searching your area for something similar? This company is called The Tire Pros. I just searched Google for "mobile tire change Ontario" and holy moly there are TONS of them out there!!

I will look into an option like that.

My additional complication is that my winter tires are already in storage with the dealership so I would need to retrieve them, plus I need an alignment done. So I think I am pretty much stuck with needing it done at the dealership and needing to figure out what to do for an hour or two in that area with no car and nothing open [and er even if things were open not wanting to go into them]. Couldn't even get takeout and go to a park to eat it outside as our parks are explicitly "walk through only" and otherwise closed :-(

Oh well, a few weeks to figure it out.

Several companies are giving discounts, like CAA and the Personal (mine).

With the Personal, you need to go to their site and fill out a form saying you will only use the car for essentials: grocery, pharmacy, etc. This is what we're doing anyway.

Hint: What I also did was to suspend insurance on one of our cars. The minimum period to get a discount is 45 days. In my case, if we don't use the 2nd car for 2 months, we'll get back CAN 150.00. If things change (hope so) and we need to use the second car in less than 45 days, just need to call them and reactivate the coverage to the second car. No penalty for doing that. The car is still covered against theft, fire, etc, but has ZERO coverage outside of your driveway or garage.

Check if your dealership will do a pick up and drop off. Not pick YOU up, but pick up your vehicle. Some are doing that.

I will. I have heard ads for some of the dealerships (other brands of course!) around here that are doing that. Thanks for the reminder.

Is anyone in your household handy with car repairs? My DH changes all of our tires out himself and he finds it fairly easy! (I would never attempt it myself though! Lol)

Unfortunately no. And only one driver, me.

Like you I would not attempt changing the tires myself.

I just called and made an appointment to change over my tires and get an oil change for May 1. We can either wait for them or leave it for the day. I said I would wait (takes about 2 hours), but if it's a nice day I will go for a walk about.
