Going home. We were up, breakfast at the next location does not need mentioning really, as it was very forgettable. We were being picked up at 1, but I asked if we could be picked up at 12, as I wanted to wait at the airport instead of this hotel.

The guy turned up at 11.30 in a Cadillac ! So we reached Victoria Airport for the 20 minute flight to Vancouver International. Lovely cute plane I thought. We landed at Vancouver airport and it was very lush and stylish, and huge, the walk to our gate was about 15 mins ! Plus it had great shops, and free Wi Fi.

Plane was slightly delayed but we were on and it was a 9 hour flight back, but we did not really sleep much. Coming back is always un pleassant, the long night time flight, going home etc etc, but we landed around 10 in the morning, and were picked up and taken back home.

I knew we were back in england, when we got to Heathrow, the place looked like a building site, someone was throwing up on the carpet at immigration check in, and the M25 delayed us by about an hour. What must people think when they visit our country ….....

Back in blighty ...

After being back a week what do I think now? Well I have been badly jet lagged, so work was really hard, especially as I cycle to work, but thats all back to normal, and I am glad to have done the trip report because I have been tying to get it down on paper so that I can remember what we did etc.

Was it better than Disney, well I have mixed feelings, I was not giddy with excitement, like when I go into Kennedy Space Centre or walk down Main Street, I never got that over whelming, 'oh my God I am back, thank God were back !!' feeling, but when I wrote the trip report, picked out the photo's I kept thinking we had a truly wonderful time.

I was never overwhelmed, but it was a once in a life time experience. When I was there on day 12 I had had enough I wanted to go home, Victoria was lovely but I was bored and wanted to go home.
I should have only done 12 days and been left wanting. It was a once in a life time trip, it was not cheap, cost me £6,500 for the holiday and then £2,200 in spending money, thats a few Disney Trips, but the train journey was truly a thing to do before you die, and the whale watching you could never forget.

If I had never done this trip and always kept going to Disney, I would have always kept thinking, am I missing something by always going to Disney. So I am glad I did it, I miss going to Disney, but its not the be all and end all anymore, but can you beat Disney for a holiday?

No, you can't beat Disney, it has everything and you will never be bored, but its not the centre of the world anymore and going to Canada was just as good an experience, but you would not want to go back and do the same things again, unlike at Disney World.

I enjoyed Canada and the Canadian people, Vancouver for me was the best, the wife loved the train, it was a once in a life time trip, and I am not sure where or when we will go next, but I do think I would like to go with the kids, as long as they will have me !

Thank you for your Trip report I truly enjoyed reading about your trip You got see lots of amazing places the train trip sounds really good too :)

Great report Kevin which brought back a lot of memories of our various trips to Canada. As you enjoyed the train trip I can recommend doing what we did, which was to cross Canada from Jasper to Toronto by train. I think it took us just over two days if I remember rightly with two sleeps on the train but it was a highly relaxing journey and a great way to see the scenery.

Thank you for your comments, and also to everyone who has commented on the other ones, its much appreciated, they take a while to write, but its great to know people appreciate it, and find some good use out of it.

I am so glad to have finished the report, as it kept me awake at night for days!

Its good to put it to bed ! party:

What a fantastic trip report, and there are loads of truly stunning photographs. I really like the idea of doing something similar to your trip and having read your report it really appeals to me - though I have plenty of travelling I'd like to do in the States first!

Thanks for posting, really enjoyed it. :thumbsup2

I have really enjoyed reading your report .. thanks so much for sharing it. It certainly sounds worth doing and the scenery is spectacular. I can definitely relate to the whole Disney VS other places debate as we are constantly going through that. I love Disney holidays so much but really feel the need to experience other destinations. I travelled a lot in my younger years and do have itchy feet to see the world again with DH, but something keeps pulling us back to Disney. This year we are cruising the Transatlantic on DCL , so I will sort of be doing a bit of both.

thanks for sharing, i have really enjoyed reading :goodvibes

Thanks for such an excellent report. I really enjoyed reading about the train journey, whale watching, the gardens etc.

I agree with you - I love Florida, but there are also other parts of the world to see. Your report has certainly made Canada a very attractive proposition for the future.

have really enjoyed reading your trip report, the pictures look fabulous.
its stange to believe theres holidays outside of disney:scared1:

Well - I have really enjoyed your report - and am sad that there are no more episodes to look forward to! Many thanks for taking the time to write it - I know it takes time. but it will be great for you to look back on in the months to come (I enjoy looking back on the one I wrote last year!) - and your efforts are really appreciated.

I agree with you and the other posters - there are other places to see other than Disney, that are once in a lifetime experiences and I continue to like the balance of seeing new things and going to new places. However our first trip to Disney was going to be a once in a lifetime experience but 7 trips later with number 8 coming up, but you definitely can't beat it as the number one holiday destination!!

Must admit I really fancy DCL :goodvibes

Again, many thanks to you all for such nice replies, it makes the writing of it so worth while, and has made me realise how lucky we were to go

I love Disney World, but I enjoyed going somewhere different

thanks to you all

:thumbsup2

I've just come to the end of your trip report and wanted to say how much I have enjoyed it :thumbsup2

Your report brought back many happy memories of our family's two trips to Canada; especially your photos. I am soooo envious of your whale-watching trip - we also went on a trip out of Victoria harbour, but didn't manage to see any whales. The train trip is something DH would really like to do, so I have a feeling we may go back one day!

Thanks very much
It seems so many people have been to Canada as well as Disney and so many have fond memories
:thumbsup2

Hi I have just found your reports and really enjoyed reading them :goodvibes

Could I ask what hotel you stayed in in Vancouver? We are looking for a hotel there as we're added 3 nights in Vancouver onto the end of our holiday in California in August - and yours sounded great! :woohoo:
