The second to last day... You begin to realise you have to go home and back to work. Today was our Whale Watching trip. We had booked the evening before and we were scheduled to go at 11.

There was no rush so we ate downtown a to a little deli, I had granola for a change, the wife had egg and ham on English muffin, but it was awful, the egg was liquid egg, not a real one, it looked like yellow feta cheese ….disgusting.

We wandered around until 10.45, when we went for the trip and got ready, we had to wear the large suits. I felt like an astronaut ! We were on a zodiac boat, which means its open air and bloody fast !

The whole 3 hour experience was one the best things we had ever done, the boat ride was a roller coaster event on its own, but to capture some pictures of the whales was even better. I did the photo's, using for the first time my telephoto lens, and the wife took the video, got some great pictures, but I took overall about 200, but about 10 – 15 only were of any good, as they were so quick at popping up and down on the ocean.

We came back to the harbour, and we were very hungry, and we went to one of two local fish and chip shops, this one called Red Fish Blue Fish. I loved it, it was built from recycled cargo container, and you sat and ate them by the dockside. We had halibut, chips, mushy peas, and tempura pickles. It was one of my favourite food events of the trip, and as ever service was excellent.

We ate them in no rush, by the harbour, watching all the sea planes come into land. We went back to the hotel, after the chips, and then back out later for some gift shopping. Along the inner harbour were a wind instrument quartet of buskers, and we asked them to play the sound track from Glee again, which we taped as well ! The wife and daughter are heavily into Glee. We then watched the sun go down, and took some more photo's of the harbour at night.

How lucky to see those whales and to capture them so well. Worth taking so many to get a few really great shots.

Love the idea of a restaurant in a re-cycled cargo container - very inventive
