Canada cruising info update on DCL site!

THey already allow access to Disney and a few other websites, you would think they could open up their firewall to allow access for the ArriveCan app/website for people connecting using the free wifi. Otherise it becomes a guaranteed moneymaker for DCL, which isn't right.
Or Canada could allow the cruiseline to submit the documentation for all passengers (and crew) onboard, like they do to clear a ship's manifest at a port stop. If the ship is providing the testing that would be simple to provide lists of positive and negative.

This bothers me. So we have to purchase an internet package to submit testing to Canada's travel website. We shouldn't have to pay a bunch extra to submit a test. That should be automatically done by Disney.

Canada Place has free wi-fi, so I would think you could upload the results one the ship is docked and not have to use the ship wi-fi.

Or some kind of hybrid. You have to do ArriveCan to board the ship. "Before sailing or entry into Canada, Guests must create a profile and upload required documentation to ArriveCAN, Canada’s entry requirements program." The only thing that changes, really, is you need the proof of test before boarding and then you will have the proof of test before debarking. But all the OTHER info should still be the same.

So maybe Canada could configure ArriveCan *for cruises* so that you fill it out before the cruise and then as you suggest the cruise line submits the debarkation test info as a manifest-type submission. They would have to figure out a protocol for those who test positive and their immediate close contacts, but that would be doable [after all, they would already have to have gone into isolation].

That said, looks like Rogers has decent cell coverage along much of the stretch between Vancouver Island and the mainland as we return to Vancouver

It says that DCL will be helping with the quarantine plan.

  • A quarantine plan should you test positive while in the country. (Note: Disney Cruise Line is finalizing arrangements with local hotel operators to provide options for isolation/quarantine should the need arise.)
That is not a good sign for anyone who can't risk getting stuck in Canada for 14 days post-cruise. The Canadian Rule says the Cruise lines are responsible for the housing, so that is not a surprise. I think we are going to have to cancel, which is really hard to say "out loud".

I find it very interesting that they mention Covid Recovered is 180 days and not 90 days like Safe Passage. So, if the US government removes testing to get back in the US that could be great....you can take advantage of the exemption and not have to test to get into Canada.

But, if testing to get back in the US is still in place it would probably make sense to forego the exemption and just get tested onboard so you could also use that test to get back into the US.

I'll wait to see what happens closer to our cruise to see if we will use the exemption or not.

I noticed only the "Canada Protocols" page is updated -- if you click to Embarkation Day, Debarkation Day, etc. you get US information.

So far it basically mentions the need to do ArriveCAN and upload vaccination proof and negative test (molecular test or professionally-administered or professionally-observed antigen test) OR 10-180 day recovery. And the fact that DCL will provide for antigen testing needed for debarkation back into Canada.

and hopefully that test will also let us get back into the US

Canada recognizes a 180-day recovered period. DCL (Safe Passage) and the US only recognize a 90-day recovery.

It may depend when the test is done. Embarkation day test, and leaving Canada by air that day, it should work. If testing is done the day prior, the timing may or may not work to fly to US.

Just FYI…you don’t put in your test results into the ArriveCan app, that is only for proof of vaccination, health questions and your quarantine plan.

The test results would be separate. When flying, the airlines are in charge of checking those so perhaps when cruising, DCL might be in charge? Otherwise, it will be done when going through Canada Customs.

Rumour is that Canada is lifting testing requirements soon, not sure if that will also apply to cruises as well as flying/driving but if Canada drops it, I bet USA won’t be far behind.

If all testing is in place still, DCL has a lot of logistics to figure out!

Yes...that what I was getting at....its double what Safe Passage is. I just found that interesting that there was such a difference in the two:flower:

I am not stressing over it....I'll wait a few more weeks and see what requirements are the.

We are on the Hawaii to Vancouver cruise so the test that Canada wants DCL to do onboard before we get to Canada was the one I was thinking might possibly be used for entry back in the US but will, of course, depend on the timing.

MJ what is the PIF date for the Hawaii cruises? I would think that if this is the rules for these cruises a lot of people will cancel.

Entering the US we can do our test the day before. But no more than that.

From the CDC: "You will need to get a COVID-19 viral test (regardless of vaccination status or citizenship) no more than 1 day before you travel by air into the United States. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight." They were careful to use the wording "day before" instead of the time constraint of "24 hrs before your flight." Which I appreciate.

I think 30 days in advance....I know DCL extended the PIF on some sailings though I really can't remember as I paid in full awhile ago. Our cruise is May 6.

These testing rules have me so confused. So l hope to be flying in from Toronto to Vancouver for an Alaskan cruise. Our 40th anniversary and hopefully all my cancer tests are good. Do l have to test the day before the cruise as well as test at the port on the day of the cruise.

Currently DCL tests everyone pre-boarding. I don't know of any reason you would have to test the day before, unless there is a Canadian testing requirement for air travel.

the new cdc guidelines for vaccinated guests suggest pre-embarkation day testing OR embarkation testing (meaning it’s possible for a cruise line to accept testing that was done 3 days before (pcr) or one day before (antigen). Only unvaccinated guests would need tests for both pre-embarkation and embarkation. I guess the question is whether DCL will continue to do embarkation testing or accept something just-prior (ie if you were tested the day before anyways to get into Canada)

You dont have to test to fly. Only fully vaxxed (2x). We are flying in from T.O. the day before our cruise. Hoping testing isn't required by then. We are going to test ourselves at home before leaving T.O just to check. What cruise are you on? We are doing the July 18th for DSis birthday. Our first cruise.
