Can you wear shirts at TL

I was wondering if anyone knew if you could wear a t-shirt over your bathing suit at TL or any other water park? My kids have very fair skin and I always use 50 SPF for them, but after being in the Florida sun for a couple of hours, I just think they might need a light-colored t-shirt over their suit. Any ideas?

Lands End has some very cool SPF 50 swim shirts available in both long and short sleeves. I'm going to get them for my kids - maybe even me! I saw them at Sears the other day, and they're nice. They are also supposed to dry fast, so they may be more comfortable to wear than tshirts.

A wet, regular tshirt will not offer a ton of extra sun protection.

As another poster said, an SPF shirt, or rash guard is probably the way to go. DS has about 4 different rash guards, and doesn't mind wearing them at all.

I would advise getting them some kind of shirt meant for sun protection. Surfers call them "rash guard" shirts. They have a better weave than cotton t-shirts, and will fit more comfortably (and look cooler). I saw quite a few kids in MK wearing them.

Can someone tell me where I might find these shirts other than Sears? Even online possibly? Also, how big do they go up to in kids sizes? Do they offer adult sizes? Thanks.

Just wanted to add that while you can wear them in the park, the lifeguards will ask you to take them off if you want to ride a "speed slide" (Summit Plummet and Slush Gusher at Blizzard / Humunga Kowabunga at Typhoon (I think that is the only one a Typhoon you have to take a shirt off on)... You can hold it while you go down the slide, but just be prepared for them to ask that you take it off if you ride one of these :)

Search for rash guards online. I know most surf shops have them as well. Ron Jon (which has a shop in Orlando) should have a big selection of them. They make them for adults as well. You can get them in both long and short sleeves.

Does this apply to rash guards and t-shirts? Or just t-shirts? TIA :)

My Son has worn these shirts since he was 3 months old- I usually get them at target or old navy for him. My husband wears them too-his latest I bought a walmart and it has held up well...hth:)

Until this thread I had never even heard of a "Rash guard shirt" (although having looked them up, I have seen them many times) :rotfl: A T-shirt will definetly need to be taken off for the speed slides (on the speed slides you can't have rivets or metal on your swim suit, water shoes, shirts or a cast **Jeans are not permitted on any slides). I am not sure about the Rash Guard shirts. The thing with the tee shirt is on a speed slide, it can come up and basically strangle you, you are going so fast if the shirt rides up it is a safety issue. I am not sure how the Rash guard shirts fit and what the policy on those would be.

Thanks for the info :) I know every rash guard I've seen on adults has fit fairly snug, so I don't think it would ride up. Oh well, if I get one and they ask me to take it off, so be it lol.

They have sizes from infant through adult, long sleeve, short sleeve, and even bottoms. I'm going to splurge for me this year and get a set. The nice thing is that if you live near a Sears, you can return any catalog order return at the store.

I have extremely fair skin, and due to medical conditions I do not go out in the sun too often. When I do, the 50+ does work very well for me, and I reapply at least every 2 hours just because I am paranoid, but the times I have forgotten and not reapplied at (say maybe 8 hours) I only end up a little pink.

I noticed that Target had the Rashguards yesterday in the boys department. Hope this helps.

I bought some for my kids at Old Navy about 2 months ago for $13. They just wore them for our spring break trip to the beach and they worked fine, although we did have the kids put on sunscreen underneath them as well. My son is extremely fair with blonde (almost white) hair and blue eyes, so the extra protection is very important. A word of warning, though -- when it's warm outside, they do get hot if they are not wet. If they are wet, they will keep you cooler.

I also just found out that because Sears only carries about 10% of the Landsend selection, you can go into their store and, using their dedicated PC, order anything online and have it shipped to you AT NO COST! Imagine my amazement!

The landsend SPF suits are not inexpensive for kids, but there are a lot of options and quality is good.

You can find one piece Sunsuits (SPF 40 -50) in that "onestepahead"or "leaps and bounds" catalog. I bought 2 for my kids - they are fairskinned and use them as bathing suits. they are a bit pricey - but we have gotten years of use out of them and recently handed them down to nephews/nieces. YOu can also try a pool supply store.

I noticed that Sams had the rash guard shirts for girls...didnt check on the boys though.
