I read some where that you could watch wishes while you are eating at Ohana's. Is this true and if it is how well can you see them ? We have a 9:40pm reservation which is all I could get. Or should we just eat at Kona earlier so we can watch the fireworks on the beach ?

If youre lucky enough to get a table in the right spot, then yes you can see them.

We had a late ADR there on our last trip in December and if I recall correctly, they actually dimmed the lights and piped in the wishes music too. Needless to say, we have another 9:15 ADR for our trip this November. ;)

Were there many people in there that late ?

Ohana is packed right until the end. ;)

OP, yes you can see Wishes from Ohana, IF you are lucky enough to have a table by the windows. They do pipe in the music as well.
Problem is, you can't request a table. The only thing you can do is ask when you check in...but that starts another issue. You may end up waiting 30+mins extra so they can get you one and you miss the show.

Best thing to do is if you want to see the fireworks eat early enough to go watch them. Have a good trip!

agree with the above..get they earlier than your res time and ask for a seat near window and you will probaly have a good wait beyond your reservation time you had :)

It was busy but it definitely was not packed wall to wall with people. I want to say our last ADR was 9:45 because that was all we could get, so I wanted to bump it up a bit for this next trip. But they still had the entertainment going and conga lines/activities for the kids with quite a few participating.

You're not guaranteed a window table, and 'Ohana's crowds don't really thin out until the end of service.

Kids entertainment ends at 9:30.

If you want to be sure you get a view, watch from the beach.

Ok so if I want to watch from the beach and wishes is at 8pm what time to make ADR 6:30 or maybe I should do 8:30 and do dinner after (Is 8:30 late enough, how long does wishes last)...

If you eat after, then 8:45 would be the adr to shoot for. If you are 1min late to Ohana you will be called a no show and the adr canceled. Take it from me...experienced this.

6:30 isn't early enough IMO to have a relaxing dinner, as Ohana is known for slowness. People experience being seated late, servers are slow....etc.
Even though it would be a walk down to the beach, I would still like to take my time. 6pm should be enough time.

If you do watch from the beach, try to stay near the walkway that runs along the beach. We usually walk down next to the pool and go to the right. They do pipe in the music but it is very low. There are speakers but they run along the walkway next to the beach. If you walk on the beach closer to the water you will probably not hear the music. This is our favorite placve (besides Main Street) to watch Wishes. We have also watched from inside 'Ohana but if you do not get a good table by one of the windows in the front you can't see too much.

Yes, Linda is right, you will only hear Wishes from the beach if you are near a speaker. You can find a spot ahead of time by finding a speaker that is playing the background Hawaiian music. Stand by it and the music will change over to Wishes when the show starts. I feel like it is never quite loud enough to hear it comfortably without straining, but if you stand very close, it's good enough.

Maybe I will just go to Kona instead of Ohana. How do all of you compare Kona and Ohana ? Is Kona worth going to ?

We love Kona and it is very much worth trying. You order off a menu at Kona, at 'Ohana, the food is brought out to your table. At 'Ohana you get salad, wings, dumplings, lo mein noodles, veggies, shrimp, steak, pork, chicken AND bread pudding with ice cream, so you have lots of things on your table to taste. At Kona, you have a more limited selection since you're ordering from the menu BUT you can choose what you're in the mood for. Also at Kona, there is no entertainment (no ukelele, no games). The Tambu Lounge sometimes has live music, so if you book Kona early, you might get a chance to enjoy that.

We did both last trip (stayed at Poly), and if we had to pick only 1, we'd do 'Ohana, maybe because it's the sentimental favorite for the atmosphere. On food quality alone...maybe Kona.

Thanks you for all the info. Right now I cannot get a reservation for Ohana except the 9:40pm and I just cancelled it because that would be to late and made a reservation for Kona. I really wanted to try Ohana, I will keep checking every day and hope someone will cancel.
