I was just wondering, can you use FastPass if you stay off property? I've always stayed on property and I was just curious.

Yes you can. you use your admission ticket.

Then why do people wait in those long long lines?????

That's the same question my dh asked! I'm planning our very first Disney trip (going in Sep) and was telling him about the fastpass. I didn't have an answer when he asked me ...

I think a lot of people don't have any concept of what FastPass is, or the way it works. I once was standing in line for Small World at MK when a family next to me started talking about having to miss Peter Pan because the line was so long. I saw that the FastPass return was for about an hour away, so I said, "Why don't you go over and get FastPasses for it?" They had no idea what I was talking about. I pulled them over in the line at the place where it turns and there's a little extra room, and told the dad to take all of his family's tickets over to the CM who was standing there, and to ask her how to do it. In a few minutes he came back with FPs for his whole family. I said, "Now you're going to rideSmall World, then you'll go get something to eat and play in the Pooh playground, then you'll be one of those lucky people who don't have to stand in long lines." They were thrilled!! I hope they have had many happy FP experiences.

Your admission ticket has only limited FP powers. You will be "blacked out" from re-using your ticket for FPs for a certain period of time after each use. For example, yesterday I FPed a ride immediately upon entering the park (around 9:05). I was allowed to return to take the ride b/t 9:45 and 10:45, and my ticket could not be used again for my next FP until 9:48. Later in the day, I FPed another attraction at 11:11. My window to ride started at 1:45 and ended at 2:45, and my ticket was blacked out for FPs until 1:15. So the lag being getting FPs (11:11 and 1:15) can be a long time to do nothing else, which is why some people who use FPs still end up standing in line for attractions.

We just vacationed with a family who never use fastpasses...WHY you ask...Because the dad does not want anyone to tell him on his vacation what he can or cannot do. They wait in line each and every time.

Cool with me though, we just use the fastpasses to the max, and walk by his type of people. Personally I can't believe his wife and girls go for that kind of stuff. They go every year, and every year it's the same deal.

Now I will say we have waited in some lines though. Say you have a FP with return window of one hour for Splash, and BTMRR has standby line of 25 minutes, and Splash has standby of 20 minutes. We get the FP for Splash, ride Big Thunder, and Splash, and then use the Splash FP

I think only certain hotels have the fp option. Isn't it something like disney sponsored hotels have fp. Just check before you buy your tickets

I would like to respectfully point out that this is not correct. ANYONE can use Fastpass.

I think you may be thinking about Front of the Line at Universal. That is only for guests of Universal hotels, not for every ticket holder.

Anyone with a ticket can use fastpass, but like was pointed out earlier, it has its limits.

That is the "other" (USF) parks policy. A day guest can use "their" system of "fastpass" if they pay to purchase a book of them.

At Disney--EVERYONE with a park ticket can use fastpass:goodvibes

Fastpass is for everyone. I even mentioned in my trip report how many people misunderstand fastpass!
