I am new to digital and just learning my Adobe phot Edition 5 but is it possble to import clip art to the Digital pages i make. Also, on fonts, can i download the fonts into Adobe ???

I haven't used or seen clipart in a while, so I couldn't tell you. What format is it in, do you know? PSE can open quite a few file types, so it could very well be possible. Choose to open the clipart file in the Full/Standard Editor and see if it shows up when you browse for it.

As for fonts, PSE uses the standard Windows fonts. That means, just load a font for use like you would for Windows (like look in the Control Panel for the Fonts section) and then it should show up in the font list for PSE.

thanks, is there anyone who can help a newbie at this and walk me through as to how i can extract my font into the windows font list(in control panel) i haven't a clue?

ok, so maybe i am not as illiterate as i thought!! I just had to change my control options screens to show fonts, then i selected to add. i can't wait to try these out.

Yes, you can use clip art in digital pages. I started my Disney A-Z book recently and used several clip art images on it:

I removed the backgrounds from them (they were white) and then I saved them in .png format which holds the transparencies better. The 6 characters are all clip art I found online via Google.

Yeah, if they're on white, then it should be fairly easy to extract them with the Magic Wand tool. You click on the white area, make sure contiguous is checked so it doesn't remove the white in the clip art, and then it should select the white background only. If it doesn't select enough white area, try changing the tolerance number to a higher number.

Before doing that, though, if the clip art layer is the background layer (and if you have no other files layered on top, it probably is), then double click that background layer to turn it into a regular layer. When it asks for a name, just click ok, and it should now be called "layer 0" instead of "background". Now, after following the steps with the magic wand above, after you've got a nice selection of all the white background, you can just hit Delete and it should delete out the background. The clip art should be now sitting on a transparent background; it looks like a little white and gray checkerboard.

Glad you figured out the font thing, disneyfan. I love fonts! :)

Fran, that looks cute! I like the way you fit the journaling into one of the circles. It looks like a bit of Donald's head is missing, though. I should consider doing an alphabet book. I've got some a Creative Memories Disney kit to use up; I love it but since I haven't been paper scrapping, it's just been sitting in the bag. I think a small A-Z book might fit the bill. ;)

Thanks Beasly Bear, it sounds complicated, but once i open and try it out it will probably make sense, i am doing an online Sony digital course so as to learn how to use the program! I got stuck at an easily section so i could not continue until i try it again :worried: , but i did manage to download the paper that the previous posted used (love the layout) So, i thought it was awesome how she layered the clip art. I too, have plenty of Creative Memories kits to use, but i want to make each of my DD's a Disney album and i think if i can figure out the digital way, i will create them on 11x8.5 albums and have them printed in Storybooks. :scratchin
Hopefully i can figure out this clip art stuff!!:wizard:

ok, so i am not as saavy as i thought! I open my photoshop and then open my clip art picture that i would like to use. Now i try the magic wand, but not sure what to do with it from here?
i can't even move anything into the photo bin? Any suggestions on where to go from here. Is there a good step by step guide anywhere to go by?

i can't even move anything into the photo bin?

Are you saying that you aren't able to figure out how to get more than 1 photo/digipaper/element open at a time? Or are you saying you can't figure out how to get a photo onto a digipaper, for instance? (This is usually a big stumbling block for new users of PSE.) If it's the first problem, in the Full Editor go to File/Open, and then browse for whatever photos or papers you want to work with. You don't have to close something to open another thing. Then, each file that you open will appear in the photo bin at the bottom.

Now, to get a photo onto a digi paper. Have both files open, and click on the thumbnail of the photo in the photo bin so that it becomes the active file, meaning you'll see it in the main part of the screen. Ok, there are several ways to get that photo onto the digi paper, and everybody has a favorite. I'm going to mention only one way in order to avoid confusing you. :) Click on the photo in the main area of the screen and hold your mouse button down. Continue to hold your mouse button down and "drag"/move the mouse so that the cursor hovers over the digi paper's thumbnail in the photo bin. Once you get on top of the digi paper, you'll see the cursor now has a little square with a plus sign in it. Let go of the mouse button and you should now see your photo appearing in the center of the digi paper. And I believe the program also automatically makes the background paper (which now has the photo on top of it) the new active file. Look at the layer palette at the bottom right of the screen. It should now show 2 things: a layer that says "background" (which is the digipaper) and a layer called "layer 1" (which is your photo).

Quick mention about layers. Think of layers just like traditional scrapbooking. Whatever appears at the top of the layer palette is at the "top" of your work. For instance, if you were to take that digipaper and drag its layer up and over the photo layer in the layer palette, you would no longer see the photo because it's now "underneath" the paper. It still exists, and you can see that in the layer palette, but the photo's covered up since it's at the bottom of the stack.

And here's why I mentioned that. :) Whenever you first open up a photo, digipaper, element, whatever...it appears in the layer palette as "background". You'll see there is a little lock on the layer next to the word "background". The first layer of an untouched photo is always started as a locked background layer, which keeps you from accidentally making some unwanted changes. So, in many case, you have to unlock that first background layer in order to do certain things. For instance, it's helpful to unlock the layer of your clip art in order to delete out the white part of the clip art. It's pretty easy to unlock the layer, too. Just double click on the background layer in the layer palette, and a little dialog box will pop up, asking you to rename the layer. You can just click "ok" and leave it as Layer 0 if you wish.

So, if you follow that with your clip art file, it should now appear in the layer palette as Layer 0. Take your magic wand tool and click once on the white area of the clip art. If it's working properly, you should see "marching ants" (a little moving dotted line) outlining all the white area. If you hit the delete key, then all the white will disappear and be replaced with a little white and gray checkerboard pattern. This checkerboard represents transparency, meaning the white is gone. But it has to show something behind the clip art that's left behind, so this pattern shows up. :) (This is why we had to unlock the layer; when you hit delete on a background layer, all it does is add white, the default background color. So you wouldn't be able to tell that anything happened since it would fill the white space...with white. )

After you get rid of the white, then you can drag the remaining clip art to a digipaper like I described above.

If you have more questions (sorry, I talked up a storm here!), feel free to ask, and hopefully we can get you started digiscrapping. :wizard:

wow that was detailed, i actually had no idea how to remove the white, but all it took was click on white and the DELETE key. That was the missing link. As for the other info, it was helpful as i think i was doing some stuff in the long way. But i think i got it now.:wizard:

Sounds good! Once you get some basic things down, it does get easier to use the program. I love PSE a lot but I know that it's not pick-up-and-go software. :)
