DS would love the 4th gen iPod touch for Christmas. Do any stores allow you to trade in for credit an older iPod? His is in good condition, but he really wants the camera feature of the newer iPod touch.

I don't know about trade-ins, but you can sell it to Gazelle and use the $$ you get towards the purchase of a new one.

That said, I have no idea what that model would be worth. You can go on their website - should be just gazelle.com - and get an estimate.

We have sold a few things to them and had great experiences.

E-bay also has a trade in program. I used them for my iPhone 3 and got back 75% of what my iPhone 4 cost

Apple even lets you do trade in directly through them. However, any program will almost guaranteed get you less than if you sold it yourself. The trade in basically takes the item you trade in, and then resells it. So if your model is going for say $80 on eBay, then you may get $50 for it since they need to turn a profit themselves. By all means, shop around and see what rates you would get, but you may do better to sell it yourself.
