Thinking of an Orlando trip next spring break with another family. With my 5 (me, DH, DS-12, DS-10 and DD-either 4 or 5) and their 4 (DW, DH, DS-11 and DD-9) there will be 9 of us for sure. Onsite or offsite is okay.
Thanks!
We are staying offsite...BOO...and renting with classic holiday villas. They have homes with up to seven bedrooms. Hate to have to stay offsite this time and deal with a car and the like...but no dogs onsite and a big part of last year's trip was boarding our boston terrier and mixed breed. Going to rent with the SIL, BIL and the kids, so that will help with cost. Cant say what the houses are like, but SIL swears by them. Not sure if that is good or not.
I am staying at a wonderful townhome in windsor hills. The have huge 5-6 bedroom homes with 5 baths and a private pool in the back They also have a community pool with a 20 foot water slide, a movie theater and a general store. It is only 2 miles from disney in kissimmee. The owner I am working with is great and he usually can recommend other propertys. If you want more info from me, send me a pm. I would be happy to share.
If you don't mind staying off property the townhomes are definitely the way to go but if you want to stay on property definitely a grand villa at one of the DVC resorts. You can go down to the DVC section and check out the points for rent from the owners.
Don't wait to long, their are booking windows for DVC but they are wonderful!!!!
You could also get 2-3 rooms onsite. If you don't plan on doing meals at your hotel, why spend the $$$ for the kitchen set-up? You'd also have to spend $$ on transportation if you are staying offsite, either getting a large van (most small vans only transport 8 passengers) or two cars. Your 4/5 yr old would also need a car seat or booster seat that you would have to bring with you or rent.
Staying on-site at a villa is good if you are in the upper working class since it will cost thousands of dollars. But if you are a normal working class person like myself (a nurse and husband works for Bellsouth) then staying off-site is more economical. I live 6 hours away so we drive our own mini-van. We go to the market to stock up on breakfast and snack foods. I understand that you can do the same staying in the villas, but it still isn't as big as a 5-6 bedroom home and it certainly doesn't come with a private pool/jacuzzi in the back. There are usaully t.v.s in every bedroom and some even have game rooms. Once again if you can afford the villas I say more power to you. I have stayed both on and off-site with my 3 children so I see the benefits of both.
but they aren't allowed to post on the Dis about their homes.
I don't own one.....
the GV are too expensive - I would go with a 2-bedroom and a studio first.
example off season
GV - Sun-thurs 36 points per night (renting is between $10 and $14 - depending upon who you rent from)
2-bedroom - 22 points + studio - 8 points = 30 points (sun-thurs - leaving on fri) per night
