Can you tell me about your solo TS dining experiences?

more than 300 times as a solo at the Disney Table Service restaurants and never felt awkward. I also dined twice that number at other restaurants when traveling on business and never felt awkward either.

They have tried to seat me at choice window seats at restaurants many times and I have asked that those tables be given to couples as the view, as nice as it is, didn't mean that much to me.

I have also had the pleasure of being invited to join other parties at their tables and really enjoyed meeting new people and having someone to share the meal time with. This was especially nice when the restaurants were fully booked and it opened up a table to a walk up.

One thing that always gave me pleasure was to buy a bottle of wine for another solo traveler anonymously and see their reaction. Sometimes we ended up sharing the bottle of wine when they somehow figured out who sent it to their table :)

Solo travel can be great especially if you are looking for decompression time and the freedom to not have anyone to answer to.

I travelled solo in February and ate at several TS restaurants. My first night was at Rain Forest Cafe outside of the Animal Kingdom. I had a great waitress that took excellent care of me. She acually sat down with me for a couple of minutes near the end of my meal as the crowds had thinned out. I had my Kindle with me that night and she was asking a lot of questions about how it worked.

I was at Epcot the next day and had lunch at Le Chefs de France. I was seated at the front window so that I could watch the people going by. I usually prefer the waiters in Le Chefs because they are usually much more attentive, but I had a waitress this time. She seemed to forget about me until I would call her over from a nearby table. I did however receive a visit from Remy just before I got up to leave.

That evening, I ate at Via Napoli. My waiter was excellent and stopped several times to check on me and to chat. I had a late dinner there also, so he was not as busy as he would have been at the peak dinner hour.

The next night, I ate at Jiko at AKL. I didn't have reservations for this one, but thought that I would just stop in and see if I could get seated at the bar. They offered me a table by the window or a seat at the bar in front of the cooking area. That was tempting, but it was late and I didn't feel like talking a lot to anyone, so I took the table. I have my Kindle loaded on my Droid, so I read while I waited for my dinner.

I always take a book, my Kindle, or my Droid with me when I go to dinner alone. If you look around at other singles, you'll notice many of them reading. You won't be out-of-place at all.

Have fun!
Terri

no need to be! they will treat you like any other guest....special! you'll be able to interact with them and take pictures like everyone else and no one will think anything odd about it. you are there like everyone else to have fun and enjoy the magic. like others have said previously, it's YOUR time to relax, unwind and enjoy some great food. I do the same thing, take my kindle, play with my DS (that gets the CMs talking to you...an adult playing with a hand-held game!) or simply review the houndreds of pictures I've taken that day. I purposely got the dining plan so that it would force me to stop and take a break from the parks, otherwise I would just keep running until I dropped.
Enjoy your character breakfast, take a book an take a picture or two with Donald
!

:rotfl: I was just going to post a thread entitled "Am I weird for wanting to dine solo?" So I feel right at home now. :teeth:

I'm looking forward to solo meals at the restaurants. :goodvibes

You're definitely not weird for wanting to dine solo. You'll probably find a lot of other threads about this topic! I like it. I'm going on my second solo trip to WDW, and I've been on several at DL. This trip will be my first character meal (solo or otherwise) though!

I'll be doing my second solo trip in August, and on my first trip I ate solo at Ohana. i didn't feel weird at all, it was great! Although I left a lot of food on the table ...

Well, just got my Kindle in the mail yesterday, so I'm all set for my solo TS dining experiences!

It can't hurt to walk up and ask for a table. As a single diner, I've been able to do that at Akershus for the princess lunch, with no wait.
