I only know Westgate Lakes Resort and Spa. Is 5 stars resort, but is TIMESHARE. You can get a good rate, but they ask you (Force you?) to attend their sales pitch! I use to live in their property and is one of the best in the Orlando area and is within 5 minutes to Sea World and 10 minutes to Universal Orlando. Also is a mere 20 minutes from Magic Kingdom, but you can drive to Downtown Disney and Lake Buena Vista within 10 minutes By the way, at night you can see the Fireworks from Magic Kingdom from your villa balcony! Plus you have access to the next door's Sand Lake Hospital and the property features 2 restaurants and on property convenience store. It has 5 big size pools and a ticket center for the attractions. It has cable tv on their villas (Not a digital cable by the way!) and their TV's are giant size with a full size kitchen. Best idea is that you may drive to the Publix Supermarket about 2 miles on Sand Lake or Walmart Super Center about 4 miles on Sand Lake. I say that because the prices for their convenience are too way expensive. Something that is a little inconvenient is their parking lot. Either is full (During the day, due to their timeshare presentations) or at night, due to people dinning at their restaurant. So you may encounter the Parking a little hassle. Just to let you know!

Marriotts Cypress Harbour is also a timeshare but you can rent out the unoccupied suites.

We stayed there in 2003 and it was honestly fantastic. Great location and many ammenities.......three pools, at least three jacuzzis, clubhouse, onsite store, onsite pizza place, maid service if you are renting only (if you rent from an owner you do not get this).

The unit was clean, spacious and well kept. We had one problem with the air conditioning and they were there within a half hour and this was late at night when we came home. Great lost and found service (DD left her eyeglasses at the pool).

Kids activities in the pool area......

Did not need to listen to timeshare spiel.

Literally five minutes from DTD, two minutes from a large grocery store (I think Publix) and in a quiet area of Lake Buena Vista....easy driving.

Let me know what other specifics you would like and I will be glad to answer.

they are all closer to SW than Us/IOA or WDW.

the sheraton is the closest to WDW and the newest!

I don't like Westgate their sales people will drive you crazy....they don't understand no!

the Marriott is probably the best choice. close to SW and I4 - plus the backroad to US/IOA (where westgate is)

caal1000 & spiceycat, thanks for the heads up on the timeshare people. I don't do well with pushy people like that. If no doesn't work I tend to use a few more colorful metaphors to make them understand no and then DW is not happy with me. :guilty: So I think I will stay away from that place.

Vellamint, I'll look at the Marriott some more and see if I have any questions for ya, I'm sure I will.

spiceycat, thanks for your help. How far is the newer sheraton compared to the marriott? Why not the newer place?

Thanks, YO

I love Marriotts - they are just different - like DVC....they are generally better....

Sheraton's Vistana are fine - the Villages is smaller than the Resort - so they have less stuff.

but you can find both Sheraton's Vistana here
www.hotelkingdom.com

you only find the marriott on
www.expedia.com
or
www.marriott.com

Marriott on the whole does not give out a lot of their stuff to discount places.

they just don't!

Sheraton Vistana has new and old sections. They won't guarantee a new section so even though we got new in 1999 and loved it, I am leary to stay there again. There is a huge difference so if age of the room and furnishings matter it may not be worth the hassle to fight with them over your room. The pools are fantastic at Vistana and we had fun playing games for prizes with other guests. Could have stayed in a 2 bedroom for $139/night next week but just don't want the hassle of fighting for a new room.

Marriott Cypress Harbour is also very nice. We loved this resort. We did the 90 minute presentation and got our 4 nights for $300 or so. The pools are great and we loved the onsite pizza on arrival night.

I have never stayed at Westlake.

spiceycat,
thanks for the advice on looking at the marriot website. I am currently booked to stay club at the Renassaince but am wondering for the extra $25 or so do I go with the Marriott World Center? I am so all over the place on this last 3 nights. Thanks sally for your info, but I just don't want to do a timeshare presentation to save a few bucks.

Thanks, YO

If I am going to spend that amount of money - I stay on site at WDW....

I do the timeshares in the area.

if you join marriott points - sometimes they have a special for the world center. It is lovely!!!

oh it not quiet as old as the Renaissance but it at least dates to the 80's.

spiceycat, you are just full of good ideas :thumbsup2 . I will join the marriott points if it's free and check for a discount. Also staying at the world may not be a bad idea either, even if we don't hit the parks. We are doing 7 nights POR at the start of this 2 weeks, amybe I can squeeze a deluxe in for 3 nights. :teeth:

Thanks, YO

i had no problem with the westgate people when i told them no...they send you to an "aent" when you check in to try to get you to go ....i just said no thanks and that was it...they did call the room midway through the week and asked again, and i said not interested and they never called again....i got the place pretty cheap so it was worth it i think..... :thumbsup2

I have exchanged through my timeshare to Marriott's Cypress Pointe and to Westgate Lakes. We were just at Westgate this past Oct. I knew from a previous stay, and my friends at this site, just to tell them no thanks when they try to give you someone to take you to your room and walk you through, etc. They'll ask you to come to a "maintenance meeting" during the week and that is when they try to get you to buy a timeshare. Just tell them no thank you, or don't answer your condo phone while you are there. We didn't need the condo phone at all because we had our cell phones.
Marriott's people were not pushy at all. They'll leave you 1 message on your phone telling you about the meeting and what they offer in return for you attending. That was it.
Both properties were nice. We like Marriott's better but will stay at Westgate Lakes again if we couldn't get a Marriott. I've always wanted to try the Sheraton Vistana but have never been able to get it. Always seems to be booked.
Hope this helps
Staci

I've stayed at the Vistana, Westgate Lakes AND Marriott World Center...

1: Vistana, we stayed there in a friend's timeshare in 2003. LOVED it. We stayed at the Lakes Section in a 2 bedroom and it was just awesome.

2: Westgate.. okay. We stayed there for 2 nights before staying in a Vacation home over New Years. It was cute and yes, the sales staff is pushy but realize, but realize that YOU are in charge of a sale, not them!

3: Marriott World Center... got this when it was easy to get on Priceline back in 2001! Lovely 4 star hotel! I prefer suites, though, so I never went back.

HTH!

Thank you all for your info. I am still trying to deciede where we want to stay. The Mariott's all seem to be calling me, from the World Center & Renassaince to Cypress Harbour. I want to surprise the family with where we stay for the last 3 nights. I want it at least semi close to SW and will have a fun pool and a place my DD's would like to explore. They love doing that. POR and RPR should make for some good explorations for them. Again thanks.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO ALL

YO

how old are you daughters?

if young (under 12) they might enjoy Horizon by Marriott. It has a pool designed for that age group.

older will definitely enjoy Cypress Harbour.

you do realize that Marriott's Imperial Palms and Sabal Palms are both at the World center and get access to it activities.... (so does Marriott's Royal Palms but it gets bad reviews.)

Spiceycat,

DD's are 13 and 10 (more like 8 or 9 because of illness). They love pools and places where they can play and make new friends. But not a place that may end up with unattended kids who are going nuts and unsupervised if you know what I mean. How far is it to get to the world center? I'll look at those 2 you jsut mentioned. Also, since I have your attention, which has a better pool area World Center or JW or Renassance?

Thanks, YO
