Can you tell me about Il Mulino?

I don't see that much mentioned about Il Mulino besides the random review (which always seem to be good)

I would love to try this place next trip, but we will have our 6 year old daughter with us. Have you brought kids there or seen them there? I remember kids are frowned upon at one place at Swan/ Dolphin (Shula's maybe)

I'm guessing by the prices it is a more formal places so what type of dress code is there? Signature restaurant?

Sorry for all the questions, but I can't seem to find much info.

Thanks

I also need info! DH and I are considering it for our last night at the AKL - we're not too interested in Jiko's menu, and Il Mulino's looked fantastic (it's our one year anniversary and we had honeymooned in Rome, so this is more of a sentimental decision b/w restaurants than a picky one). Can anyone tell me if it's going to be too long of a hassle to get to the Swan/Dolphin area from AKL to make it worthwhile? We're already in a transportation jumble that day with trying to go to and get back from Harry Potter World.

Thanks!

. . . no problem
. . . it is pretty kid friendly
. . . but, it is kind of upscale
. . . so, if the 6-year-old acts up, others might be annoyed

. . . definitely business casual

Signature restaurant?
. . . yes
. . . but, not on DDP

I think this is why we don't hear too much about it. I have asked about a few non DDP restaurants on here in the past, most recently Garden Grove dinner, and very few responses came in on it. I am now wondering if I should try something a little more upscale too. I was on the website looking at Il Mulino too and wondering the same thing about children. It would just be myself and my 8 year old DD, who spends most of her time when not at school, in adult company so I don't have concerns about her acting up and don't require kid friendly. It had crossed my mind though that I should check to see if there is a minimum age limit. Is there a separate children's menu or would I just order an appetizer and maybe a side for her?

Thanks for the replies, keep them coming!

I would love to try it this trip b/c we will not be on the dining plan this time.

You can get a $25 Restaurant.com gift certificate for Il Mulino (and a few other restaurants in the Swan & Dolphin resorts) for only $2 if you order it before 8/16/2010 and use the code from MouseSavers. :)

Check out MouseSavers for more info and the code.

P.S. There are also certificates available for House of Blues in DD.

I haven't been to Il Mulino before but I do have a ressie there for December. I called to ask about dress code because I knew my boys (dh & ds) may not want to get dressed and bring extra shoes for a dinner while we were in Disney. The dress code they told me is business casual but a nice pair of shorts with a polo type shirt and sandals would be acceptable for the guys.

Since you spent your honeymoon in Italy, you may be interested to know that Il Mulino now has live Italian entertainment on Fri/Sat nights begining at 7 or 7:30pm. I am looking forward to that! I did get a GC for Il Mulino for our stay as well.

I am not sure about a child's menu, but I know all of their pasta dishes can be ordered as a half order!

If someone does go, please give us a review with pictures! :cheer2:

The dress code is exactly the same as for all the Disney Signature restaurants--shorts are perfectly fine. Just no swim suits, torn cloths, tank tops on men.
IF it matters the TIW card is accepted at Il Mulino.

We ate there probably a few months ago using a restaurant.com certificate.
It was okay. Had better. Had worse.
Probably would not rush back for a return, even with another $25 certificate.
Wasn't disappointed. Just still pricey for what we got, and there are other places we like better.

We just used another restaurant.com certificate last night at Shula's.
Lesson learned for me. Don't bother paying for the bottled ice tea at S/D restaurants. (It's the only ice tea they offer and no where near worth what they charge.)

We have eaten at the Il Mulino in NYC (we loved it) with our children, and it is very family friendly. A good friend of mine has eaten at the original and the one at the S&D and says that the Florida version lives up the original.

In general, resort dining is kid-friendly, even at finer restaurants. You should not feel uncomfortable about brining your kids to any venue that doesn't have an age policy. People who are inside Disney property who are upset about being near children need to get their heads examined.

We review with our girls our "nice restaurant" rules before we go to upscale places and are sure to bring things for them to do so they don't get rammy and disturb people who are rightfully expecting a reasonably quiet environment. We also trickle bribe-like treats through the meal and hold the actualization of dessert over their heads the whole way to keep them in check. Not our day-to-day parenting tactics, but we don't eat in nice restaurants every day. Our goal is for us, our kids, and the surrounding guests to have a nice time.

And if the kids aren't on their game and it isn't in the cards to get them back, we excuse ourselves and get out of there.

Have a delicious meal and a great time.
