My family and I are thinking of renting a car here in Des Moines and driving to wdw. We would not need the car while on property so we were thinking of dropping it off at mic a taking DME to resort and then the reverse in the way back. My question is can you take DME if you don't fly in?

Sure can. You might want to book DME for some in the party. Then, just drive directly to the resort, drop everyone off, with the baggage, and let them get checked in. You can drive back to MCO and return the car and take DME back to the resort.
Or, just rent with a company that is close to WDW. For instance, Alamo and National are both at the Dolphin and the Car Care Center (close to the entrance to MK).

You should check the prices first. One way rentals are usually very expensive - it would probably be cheaper to just keep the car.

Thanks for the info. Good to know that it might be better to just keep the car. Plus then we could take a cooler and not have to unpack it from the car.

Also make sure your rental agreement allows for out of state travel.

Good note. I'll make sure to check that.

I actually did some price checking today and one way was like 250 a day and round trip was starting at 22 a day so I think keeping it makes more sense.
