Can you substitute foods with the dining plan?

I was wondering about substituting, say like a vegetable on my entree. Is this allowed at Disney restaurants if you are using the dining plan. Or do you have to get exactly what the menu lists with the entree's details...

I read somewhere that at Le Cellier someone subbed the risotto for mashed potatoes, just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

That will depend completely on which restaurant you are at, and sometimes on exactly which dish you wish to substitute and what you want to substitute it for. (Be advised though, that if you are ordering from a fixed price three course menu at Le Cellier, Chefs de France, Kona or Captain's Grill, no substitutions whatsoever will be permitted.)

Another story of Le Cellier is that they will allow substitutions (outside the fixed-price menu) of sides that accompany entrees only for sides that accompany other entrees - they won't let you substitute your side for one of the separately listed sides.

From the reports I've read, Le Cellier seems to be the exception in that they generally don't allow such substitutions (or do not allow it often enough to establish a trend). Most other restaurants seem to allow you to substitute a side from one entree for another entree.

Le Cellier DOES routinely allow people to sub the risotto for the mashed potatoes (risotto comes with the mushroom filet, and the mashed potatoes come with the other steak on the menu) Two of 4 people at our table have subbed the sides on the steaks with no problems whatsoever.

But who knows what's going to happen in 2011 when Le Cellier undergoes the big transformation...
