Can you share?

If we were to get the Disney dining plan - regular (not quick service/not deluxe-premium) would we be able to do the following:

If we were at a table service restaurant -
2 of our 3 children do not eat BIG meals and would definitely be able to share an adult entrée. All kids are considered Disney adults (10, 11, 13) but they just wouldn't eat it all. Hate to see it be wasted or just half eaten. So could we ask them to just take 3 or 4 adult credits for the 4 or 5 people?

So lets say we are eating at a signature restaurant like Artist Point. Would they allow you do the same thing. 5 eating dinner but only 4 being charged (so it would be 8 credits since it is a 2 credit place)?

Looked around and couldn't find the answer to the question.

Yes you can! Use as many or few credits as you wish. The only place that frowns upon this and usually won't let you do so is Via Napoli. No sharing of credits there.

My husband and I have shared an entree many times on the dining plan.

(Can't share at all you can eat restaurants or buffets.)

So in theory you could order 2 different items and use 2 credits on one person and not use the other?

What? If you order 2 entrees, then you're using 2 credits. How many people eat it makes no difference. What's "the other" you're asking about.

WOW - I really wish we would have known this the last time we went.

I truly had no earthly idea that you could do this at sit down restaurants. I totally understand that its not allowed at the buffets or at the dinner shows (aloha, hoop dee doo, etc)..

So I guess all we have to do is make our reservations for 5 as everyone needs a seat and then let the server know that we will just be using 4 credits instead of 5?

Did this just start or has it always been that way?

P.S. I think when we ate at Chefs in France me and my husband could have possibly split the entree between ourselves. They just give you lots of food!

Disney is really good about splitting meals. Let your server know that you are splitting an entrée and the chef will take care of it in the kitchen. You must all be on the DDP though, at least that is how it was.

We will all be on the dining plan but doing it this way we may not have to pay out of pocket at all except for the tip as I think we could possibly save enough TS credits to be able to do one or two TS credits.

My 11 year old daughter will be ordering off the kids menu out of pocket on our trip in December and they we will be using her meal credits for more meals...it's always been that way. And if she's really not hungry or wants to just share with someone else, even better! We will be doing this everywhere except pay one price meals where she has to pay as an adult.

At most TS restaurants where you order from a menu you can share (use 1 person's dining credit to feed 2 or more people.) You cannot share and everyone will be charged a credit or have to pay out of pocket at buffets, family style all you care to eat venues (e.g. 'Ohana, Garden Grill), the 3 dinner shows, fixed price venues (e.g. CRT, Akershus), Fantasmic and Candlelight Processional Dining Packages, special events (e.g. fireworks dessert parties) and anyone who eats from the Family Platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Yes, everyone who will be at the table needs to included on the reservation because of fire code regulations. The server will ask if you are on the dining plan and you can ask if the restaurant allows sharing. The only a la carte TS restaurant that has consistently not allowed sharing when using the dining plan has been Via Napoli. Also, if ordering a pizza there with dining credits they limit it to the individual sized pizza and they usually will not allow combining of credits to order the larger sized pizzas. Occasionally someone will post that another restaurant did not allow sharing so it is best to ask first. If paying OOP, you can share even at VN.

It has been like tist as long as I can remember.

I just found out about this the other day and have decided to plan and share at 2 of our dinners. So now we are going to surprise the kids with doing the first night at the Hoop Dee Doparty:keeping this a secret for almost a year is going to be hard.:ssst:

I'm happy to learn this, as well. DH & I were actually just discussing this. Some meals are so huge that we would really like to be able to share. We have several ressies planned for Dec. that we could possibly share.

In our situation, too much food for one person on DXDP so we will share..2 meals for 3 people! Will work out perfectly. We will do some breakfast buffets such as boma and Cape May with no sharing.

What if someone in our party isn't on the dining plan? Can we still share? We will meet our DD at the parks. She isn't on DDP, but the meal is plenty to share. She would probably order wine and maybe some soup or something.

You can order four meals between five, but remember that signature meals are often on the smaller side. At Cali Grill my entree was only just big enough for me, it was delicious and the correct portion, but not big enough to share.

At most places, you shouldn't have a problem, but don't try it at Via Napoli. They are very strict on who eats what when on/off DDP.
