Can you share table meals on DDP?

We are going to Disney in Sept and it's our first time on the DDP. There is me, Dh, DD(6) and DD(3). DD3 doesn't usually eat very much, so I was wondering if I could get one child's table service meal and split it between the 2 girls, or do they make you buy 2 separate meals. I was trying to conserve the TS credits if possible. Are the kids portions big enough to split?

Also...If you are getting CS meals, If one person orders and gets the food for everyone while the other waits at the table with the kids, can you get food from the adult menu for the kids with CS credits or are they catagorized as so many credits for adult meals and so many for kid meals?

yes you can and it would depend on your child - for mine if i had 2 kids who ate like dd then 1 meal would do the two of them.

but what would be the point? why are you saving them since you have to pay for them for each day?

if you want to save money don't do the ddp and just pay cash for it and then share your meals

We aren't paying for it..we're doing the free ddp in September.

I'm trying to conserve because if the kids share a meal on 4 of our TS meals, then it will leave enough credits left over to have more TS meal? KNow what I mean?

only for the kids - unless you and your dh are planning on sharing your's as well.

They do show a split between adult & child credits. You cannot use a child's credit for an adult meal.

You can split the meals. But you cannot use credits for which you paid a child's price (or bought a child's ticket on the free dining) to order from the adult menu, unless the CS location has no children's menu. There are about six of these left.

You will be able to order at one time no more than two adult and two child meals, if that is the number of persons listed on your reservation.

The DIS does not permit discussion of ways to get around the specifically stated rules of Walt Disney World regarding the dining plan: that children's credits must be used to order from a children's menu where one is available. The dining plan brochures are very specific about this regarding CS meals as well as TS. It is the rule of the DISboards that such discussions will be removed from the board.

The one table service restaurant that specifically prohibits splitting entrees on the dining plan is Beaches & Cream. At the others it is apparently permitted (unless you are talking about a buffet or family style restaurant, where sharing is never permitted)

The kids TS meals are not very big--usually smaller than the kids CS meals. I really don't think they would be able to split. The servings are 4 chicken nuggets, 1 chicken leg, very small pizza (saucer sized), and when there were side items they were small too like 3 or 4 carrot sticks. The dessert is a very small scoop of ice cream in a tiny bowl. Technically adults can't share 1 TS credit according to the paperwork but they often let that rule slide though I'd guess they may be more strict than normal during free dining.

What "paperwork" and "rule" are you referring to?

We've never had any problem splitting a TS meal on free DDP, and there is no rule against it in the DDP brochure.

Of course you can't share food with someone who is not on the plan, or use 1TS credit for 2 people at a buffet.

I have a question that I haven't seen an answer to yet.

Background:

characters: 6 total
2 adults, 3 "disney adults", 1 child. Aug trip on free dining

Wife and I have set up for a "date night" one of our days. Kids are having pizza delivery in the resort room. This will mean using one of the "adult" credits to get the 2 pizza's for my kids. This leaves us one adult TS credit short and one child TS credit extra. When we go to Tony's in MK for a TS lunch later in trip I want to use the 4 adult credits we planned have for that day and two child TS credits and order two kid's meals...and either me or wife or one of my other "disney adults" will eat one of the kid's meals. This will put our credit count back to even and allow us to enjoy Chief Mickey's the next day, our last without paying OOP for anybody, and we don't have to pay OOP for anything during our Tony's meal. I'm not asking disney to give me an adult size kid's meal for either an adult or child's TS credit. I want a kid's meal for a kid's TS credit. Im just ordering two at the same time. Thanks in advace for any help with this.

If you only have one child on the card, they'll only let you use one child's meal on the dining plan at the table, so the scenario you're suggesting will not work. You can actually order as many child's meals as you want, but when comes time to bill, the system will only credit one child's meal to the dining plan --any others you'll have to pay cash, credit card or charge it to your room. The KTTW cards clearly say how many adults/how many children so there's not any confusion at the time they ring it up. That's just the way it works...

no - you can't do that - you'll have to pay oop for one of the adults meals and have 1 child meal left over. there's no getting around it. sorry.

Are you at a resort with a food court? If you are, carry out the pizza from the food court and use CS credits to buy it.

Thats what I thought...thanks

We are at POP...and while that suggestion is better use of the credits...and would be a better choice if paying OOP, we are on dining and this would leave us with 3 adult TS and 1 child TS and no way to "spend" those..and no way to get lunch that same day either, unless we paid OOP which is something I'm trying to avoid. Just wondering if I should move my daughter, the child in this scenario, up to an adult ticket, pay the $30 extra for the ticket and then she would be on the adult DDP. :confused:and:scratchin

I know that the OOP for one adult meal at Tony's will be cheaper then the ticket upgrade, but it would then give my daughter the choice of eating off the regular menu at the CS locations instead of being limited to just the kids menu. I'm not worried about the TS because we have buffets for all our other TS's except for the questioned Tony's Town Square and the in room pizza on DW's and my date night. That would also eliminate the problem of extra child credit in the first place.....I think this might be the best solution. What do you guys think??? How late can I change this? should I do it before my 45 day mark? without penalty or since it's more money to Disney can I do it after the 45 day mark?

Mike

If you're going to upgrade your package (pay more for it) you can do it up to 3 days before arrival and they shouldn't charge you to change it.

I thought if your ordered Pizza it was 2 credits? Or is it different if you go pick it up vs having it delivered to your room?:confused3

if you do the in-room pizza delivery it takes 2 adult TS credits...if you go get the pizza at the food court, then you use 2 CS credits instead.....so there's a big premium for the "delivery"...not sure if there is any difference in the pizza itself..or the other items you get from food court vs the in-room. I.E. is there a difference in the drinks and dessert?

It has not been announced if this will happen this year, but in past years during free dining, you could exchange a table credit for a counter service credit and get and extra something (last year I think it was a lanyard or a tote bag and an extra snack credit). So you could do that for the pizza and have your regular CS credits for lunch that day.

If you have any leftover credits, so what? It's free dining. :goodvibes

Hope you can work it out!

Yes..I have heard that...I wasn't including that in my planning though because it's not guaranteed. Was there an exchange offered for a child's TS meal to a CS? and as far as having left over's....If things worked as I would like I would not have any left overs...the only way I can end up with left over's is if I pay OOP for something...and I am trying to avoid that if at all possible. Thanks for the reply :)

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a different situation. Here is my question. It will be me, my DH and our "Disney adult" going for free dining in September. My DS is a VERY picky eater and will only eat what is offered on the child's menu. Of course he will be on the adult ddp because of his age. Can we order from the kids menu and pay oop for his meal? We didn't have a problem with it last month but we were not on the ddp. I know we will have credits left over, but I just want to be sure it isn't a problem. I would be more than happy to use his credits as long as he could order from the child's menu.

Last year my DD was only 9 when we were on the DDP.
I knew we would regret putting her on the child's plan, so we opted to list her as a 10-year old to get the upgraded meal plan for her.

REALLY glad we did!
