So I was talking to my sis-in-law today and according to one of her friends, who knows someone that works at DLR (confused yet?) that there are people at the parks that look just like regular tourists, are CM etc. that will hand out "freebies" to people. It could be for picking up garbage, having well behaved children etc...whatever the person decides. The thing is, no one will know who these people are that are handing out these gifts.

I tried to explain about being "dreamed", but that these people wear white vests and it is all down to a science how people are picked and for what.
My sis-in-law says,"no. Nobody will know who these people are. They will look like regular tourists or be a character i.e. Cinderella. And they will give people gifts for being nice."

My question to you all is, Have any of you heard about this?:confused3 Is she getting confused with being "dreamed" by the people in white vests? (the dream team).
I almost told her that sometimes even people that work at Disney don't always have the same info. I figured that if this was something "new" you guys would have heard and posted. From how she explained it to me, it sounds nothing like being dreamed. If someone comes up to me with no white vest on and tries to tell me that I have won something, I will be very leery. It could be a big scam.
Anyways, is she partially right and just have the particulars mixed up? Or is this something new?
Thanks guys! I new I could count on your expertise!

I think there's a middle ground.

When Dream Team members aren't on a Dream "mission" (my word, not necessarily what they call it), they take off their vests, and they just look like generic CMs. While dressed like that, they can give "Magic Moments", and those can be given for things like your sister described.

We stopped to chat with a CM dressed like that (it was a chilly morning and I was hoping her jacket was just covering the vest, LOL), and she ended up giving us a Magic (or Magical?) Moment for special seating at a Billy Hill show later that day. I think it was just b/c we said hi.

But I can't imagine for even one moment that they would have CMs dressed as normal people give things to guests.

But then there's another aspect to it, in that they DO have plain clothes security people. I even saw one once, and I only noticed her b/c she was speaking closely to a uniformed security person in the bathrooms, and both of them had earpieces with coiled wire going behind their ears. She was completely dressed down, nothing but the earpiece gave her away.

So maybe your SIL has gotten them all mixed up?

I believe any CM can hand out a "magic moment", whether it be a pass to the front of the line or a backstage tour of an attraction, special seating, a ride on the Lilly Belle or as little as stickers or a pin.

Thanks guys! i figured that she was getting things a little mixed up. If there was anything new happening you guys would have already mentioned it.:disrocks: :thanks:

I had to wait at a photo kiosk for the CM as she was talking to to 2 very official types. So, I was talking nicely and as quietly as the CM about my purchase. And she gave me a Honorary Citizen of Disneyland Button!! I felt very proud!!

That was random.

Also I meet people at DL who had been dreamed the special Mouse Ears by the DDT side of the Monorail. I said "Oh, you got Dreamed with the special new Mouse Ears."

Then they came over and wanted me to explain!! Can you Imagine they knew nothing!!

I agree with disneyfaninaz. Our experience wasn't at DL it was at DW.

We had just been over to Test Track at Epcot and the wait was 90 minutes. I was already a little 'over baked' and told my DH and 2 sons to go without me and I would meet them in a couple of hours. A sweet young man came out and said, "You're not going?" I was a little embarrassed and said no. He then invited us into the side door and took us into an office looking area. We were signed in as guests and allowed to sit in a VIP area that overlooked the ride as it was in process. The area had refreshments and private bathroom areas. It was a lovely little break in the middle of all the chaos! When we had relaxed for 10-15 minutes, the young man returned to us and escorted us directly to the front of the waiting line.

It wasn't the year of the million dreams back then, it was just an employee doing something above and beyond. For us, it was magical! It made our trip!

I posted something a little while back that relates to this, but here's the basic idea:

The Dream Team does a few things:
1. Distribute official dreams
2. Make magic moments
3. Pin trade, interact with guests, etc....

When giving out official dreams, they are in pairs with white vest. These prizes include things like: A night in the suite, dreams lanyard with pins, etc...

When giving out Magic Moments, they are not necessarily in pairs and are usually NOT in white vests. These prizes include things like: Priority seating at Fantasmic, reserved seats the Golden Horseshoe, etc...

MANY castmembers (not just Dream Squad) have items like Pixie Pins, Birthday buttons, etc. to give out as they see appropriate to make magic throughout the Park.

My guess is that your SIL saw Dream Squad peeps in their shorts and polo shirts handing out something

Sort of... Front of the line passes are NOT able to be given out by just any CM, neither are backstage tours. This is something that generally needs management at some level to be involved in. Sometimes, it can be a "fix it" or "magic moment" for some special reason. Stickers and pins ARE accessible to most CMs (not all, depending on location) to give out.
