Can you scan in person who is not present?

At entry, if I had my son's ticket, would they allow me to scan him in even if he's not there? It would be a great solution for a teen who might want to sleep in a little one morning but we could still collect group FP to use later when he would be with us. Has anyone heard of this or tried it themselves?

No. They will take a picture of the person scanning in on that ticket and they are not transferable once activated.

You know, I wish they would allow this with this BG situation right now. Why do they care if the person is actually there or not? Either way, you are utilizing a day of the ticket, so Disney wins once the ticket is scanned for the day.

Not if it has already been used and that step has been done prior.

The OP is not asking to use the sons ticket for herself.

It would deplete BGs and FPs very quickly if people were allowed to do this. People could just take a bunch of other people’s tickets and book and use FPs on them all day. It’d be a mess.

Correct...and the ticket is NOT transferrable as I also indicated. The OP is asking to scan in the ticket for someone else that is not present. It does not say just non transferrable for entry only...also non transferrable from the ticket holder to the OP to gain an advantage over guests that are actually in park already.

But the intent is to get a BG for HIM, and he is going to come to the park later anyway to use it. I don't see how this is gaining any advantage. She is not utilizing his ticket so that SHE can benefit in any way.

Right, but if this was allowed, there’s nothing stopping me from scanning in a dozen of the APs I know every time I go and booking FPs and BGs on their APs and using them all myself.

Even if they were only used by the actual ticket holders, I could go in the morning and scan all my friends’ tickets and book stuff for them to arrive at 3 or 4pm and have FPs all stacked up... people staying at hotels could send one runner over to scan in 10 people... it would really strain the system and not be very fair.

Whrer do you draw the line? One kid?...whole family?...school group of 20?...everyone in the park scanning in others to join them later?

Why should those that are in the park and eligible to book FPs and BGs according to the rules of use loose out opportunities to those that choose not to arrive in person to do that?

I am not an early riser and like to close out the parks and would not find it fair to show up and be out of FPs because others were allowed to pull them that were not even in the park yet.

Because if they allowed this, people would use it to scam the system. Someone would monetize it. Give me $5/$10/$100 and your pass on my phone and I’ll get you boarding groups and FP for the day.
People are already complaining that the BG process isn't “fair” imagine if I could get 25 slots in one go because I’ve loaded other people’s passes on my phone even though they aren’t coming into the park that day.

This happened to my daughter. We are both AP holders. She went to Disneyland witha group of friends and accidently scanned my ticket at the booth since she was using the app and both of the tickets are on my account. Of course they did not let her in, so she swiped to her ticket and they let her in. But... the results were interesting.

No doubt there are plenty of ways to game the system, intentional or unintentional...but as a rule the practice is not knowingly allowed if you are trying to be above board as the OP was inquiring to.

And just for the record before everyone starts getting holier than holy against me or my daughter, my daughter did nothing with it, but it was very interesting what i was able to do from home.

It is known that the app is not geo fenced...meaning once you scan into the park you can indeed leave the park and still be able to book MaxPasses and other things, the key is the first ticket activation that day...not your physical location. That allows guests to go back to hotel or DTD, take a break and still have access to the app so not surprising that you had full functionality even from home once your daughter scanned your AP by accident.

I’ve done it once for my wife and I. Scanned both tickets, helped some strangers understand MaxPass by showing them the process as I got ours, left the parks, went shopping and returned that afternoon with a couple of FP’s.

Technically it is not allowed and I was aware of that but I just did it so we could both be scanned in and return later in the day. Saved my wife a 35-40 min walk

On one visit to DL, we arrived on a Thursday night so my family could enjoy Friday while I worked remotely. I woke up early enough to make my way to Disneyland, enter, and then return so they could be getting me FPs for later in the evening. It would have felt weird having someone else try to check me in.

I figured this out the first time I tried getting World of Color reservations in 2012. My wife slept in and while I tried using her ticket a receipt popped out with a message that the ticket hadn't been used for entry.

However, I understand that if DAS is active, all the ticket holders linked to the DAS guest are eligible to use that once they enter. Meaning the DAS return time can be reserved before a linked guest enters, although the DAS guest has to be present when a return time is given and present for the return.

But how? How would you hand the CM two tickets and have them scan them both without two people there?

I’ve seen people hand the entire ticket bunch in a group to a CM before. So conceivably if the CM didn’t bother to check and make sure the people behind the first person are the ones that are assigned to the ticket. You could technically get away with doing this.
