Can you ring before 7mth window and get an 'idea' of availability?

Hi, I need to ring at 7mths to change my mothers booking anyway, and it will only be about a month before my 7mth window opens up.

I know that it could all change in a month, but at least I could see whether there is lots of availabilty and I was in with a good chance, or whether it is all booked up already and then I will know not to even hope for it!!

So do you think MS will tell me, if I ask what the availability at VB is looking like for NYE??

If they are going to say no, then I won't even ask the question.:thumbsup2

No, they will only check availability at resorts in which you are able to book a reservation.

So, if it is a non-home resort, you have to wait until your 7 month mark.

I am starting to get a bit nervous about it now.:goodvibes I currently have a cash booking at Hard Rock Hotel for 12/30 -1/6 and want to get DVC for the 30th & 31st Dec, as I don't think HRH is particularly where I want to spend NYE with two small boys.

I hadn't planned on WDW for NYE, as I really don't want to take the boys to a crowded park, so I was hoping for a OVR at Vero Beach for the two nights. If not there, then I would LOVE a boardwalk view studio at BWV, so we could have some of the atmosphere without being in the middle of it!! - but I have a feeling I will have no chance at that!!!

the end of May is a LONG wait to find out what I can do!!!:rotfl:

Can you use your home window to book something now ? NYE is the most popular night of the year. At 7 months I doubt any highly sought after categories will be left at WDW
I'm not sure about VB

I did think about it but to be honest we are staying at both of our home resorts in Dec, so I am not bothered about going back to them for NYE - I will probably just keep my Hard Rock reservation if I can't get into BWV/BCV/OKW or VB!!:goodvibes

I think it is very unlikely that you would be able to get BWV/BCV for NYE at 7 months. We have been for the past 5 years for xmas-New years week and have reserved our home resort of OKW at 11 months and tried 2x to change at 7 months and were not successful, especially if you are trying to arrive on 12/30 as others will be have booked for earlier arrival that week. The BW/BC area is extremely popular for the NYE holiday. We still enjoyed our OKW stay, but last year decided at the last minute to book dolphin just for NYE on starwood points(checked in after 4 nights at OKW) and it was great as we had reservations at Kouzzina for NYE and were able to take in all the activities, see firworks from DHS and Epcot from there and be back in our room before most folks hit the parking lot after midnite. I wish you luck, but wanted to give you my experiences.

Good luck. I think that you have a chance at VB or OKW...the others, not so much.

However, you can always put in a WL and hope. Of course, you will have to work it so you don't lose out with the HRH reservation.

thank you both:thumbsup2 - I will ring at 7mths and just keep my fingers crossed for VB or OKW - at least I have somewhere booked for NYE if the othe two don't work out.:)

Many thanks:lovestruc

Sometimes availability or lack thereof at 8-9 months doesn't necessarily mean the same at 7 months. There's lots of movement around. Once, I was fortunate enough to get the type of information you're looking for. The Cm told me at 9 months that the resort I wanted (but couldn't book until 7 months) was already booked full. Yet when I called at 7 months to be put on the waitlist, the CM I spoke with that day said "Why do you want to go on the waitlist? There's availability-you can book it now." Sometimes it's tempting for me (like now when we're wondering about next April at HHI) but then I remember that experience and just hope.

that reassuring to know - thank you!:thumbsup2 I actually won't get my hopes up too high, but will remain fairly optmistic that we will be able to get something - I am swaying back to VB again now, as I do fancy seeing the sea!! - so hopefully I will have more luck there than at the WDW resorts:thumbsup2

Thanks again:)

would LOVE a boardwalk view studio at BWV

There are only two ways to ever even hope at getting this over NYE:

1. Own at BWV and employ walking to secure that reservation.

2. Get an owner at BWV to do the above for you.

No, they will only check availability at resorts in which you are able to book a reservation.

True, but a work-around is to try and make friends here with anyone who owns at the resort(s) you are curious about and see if they will do some of those "fishing" calls for you.;)

Never thought about that! Good to know!!!!

Note that we are living in strange times. Over the past 18 months, people have gotten reservations that were "never available". While I would still say it's pretty unlikely anything will be there for NYE, you can no longer say never.

Recent call:

Me: Boardwalk? Standard View? Two months out?
MS: Sure, no problem.

That *never* would have happened in the past.

we are owners at Boardwalk. We were due to check out on December 27 and found out friends are staying thru the new year. We are booked for a bw view and cannot get the same view extending through new years day. I am currently waitlisted and have been since end of March. You may have a chance for OKW

Good luck.

That actually used to happen a lot. And sometimes when other people were on the waitlist for those same nights. Apparently, they fixed it, but it used to be that rooms were released with a cancellation real time, but the waitlist ran as a batch process. So if you could call between someone's cancellation and a waitlist, you'd get an "impossible" room.

And sometimes I don't think they've fixed it.

There have always been the "There was a Boardwalk standard view available over Food and Wine still available when you called in August! You should go buy a lottery ticket" cases. The issue is that its human nature for people to remember the positive hits on those successes and discount the negative ones (which aren't posted as often because the response is a predictable and patronizing 'you should have known better') and then be disappointed when the rare event doesn't happen when they need it to.

Excellent, excellent point. The times we hear about the "failures" here are generally from newer members who were not yet fully aware of the difficulty of certain ressies. Once they become more seasoned, they are much less likely to post about striking out those and yes, those rare success stories (which have some "bragging" value) always show up.

While I agree with what you are saying, in this case it was honest-to-goodness availability. There one day when I called to see if anything was available. There the next when I called to book.

While nobody should count on impossible rooms being available, there does seem to be - at least temporarily - much more availability for certain rooms than there used to be.

I just called today for the 30th and 31st and my home resort is BWV. I'm looking for a studio also.

There are NO studios avail for those nights :( the only thing available is a one bdrm preferred. I'm actually on the waitlist for a studio.

whew! I was lucky to call yesterday and make a reservation for 12/26 to 1/2 at BWV in a 1 BR preferred. We are wait listed for a 2BR. I'm planning on calling at the 7 month mark to try for another resort.

We love BWV but would like to try AKV or WL. I know....good luck with that. That's why I tell everyone I know who asks to 'buy where you want to stay'.

Good luck getting the ressies you would like :goodvibes
