Can you recommend an afforable hotel close to Universal?

I would LOVE to stay at Portofino Bay, but my checkbook is saying NO WAY. Our family of 3 will be looking for one room for a 3-4 night stay in mid-May (2002). Willing to pay up to $100/night.

You can try the Holiday Inn on Kirkman Road. I believe rates start at $80.

You can try to get an Entertainment rate at the new Hard Rock Hotel for $117 a night plus tax. That way you could take advantage of Front-of-the-line access all day at both parks.

Just a thought DISgal, but if you are willing to spend $100 a night maybe you could go fo another $51 total for the 3 nights and stay at Hard Rock? That way you can take advantage of FOTL. Of course that would be providing the entertainment rate is available for your dates of travel.

In my book the wonderful ALL DAY FOTL access plus the convenience of staying onsite (no long walks from the parking lot, etc) is worth a few extra dollars if at all possible.

Parking is $7 a day by itself (I assume you don't have to pay to park at the hotel), so that narrows the gap.

Parking is free at the Portofino at the self-parking lot which is right next to the hotel entrance. Valet parking is extra ($10 or $12 a day). I parked our car when we arrived and forgot about it there until we left. There was no need for it all.

I would assume that the HRH would have the same set-up.

thanks for the parking price. I'm considering that in the decision as well. If I can get a great rate at HRH we'll definitely be staying there.
