We are in need of a new printer. Can anyone recommend a printer that works well and won't break the bank when it comes time to buy ink. Hoping to find a good deal this weekend. TIA :)

I have learned that if you want cheap ink you will get cheap ink. I used to buy a printer that had cheap ink and ended up replacing ink very frequently. I had a printer at work that I used to print maybe 50 pages a day and only changed ink maybe once every 6 months. Because of this, I bought the printer for my home as well. It was the HP Office Jet Pro 8000. It only prints (no scanner or fax) and the ink is pricey but rarely needs replacement.

Hello!

First time I answer a printer question on the boards but this question caught my attention because I was in the same boat a few years ago - and it can be daunting with so many options. I used to probably buy a new ink-jet printer every other year.... I purchased Canon, Epson, and an HP. All gave me trouble and I have to tell you, I'm a casual user. However, my brother-in-law [who's a computer/networking guy] told me to look into a Brother. He sent me a model to look at and 4-years later, it's still kicking strong. A great little all-in-one machine, paid less than $100.00 for it, and the ink is cheap through http://www.1ink.com.

My machine's model # is MFC-295CN [which is discontinued at this point]. If the model that I have fits your needs, I would just compare the specs with a newer version.

I couldn't be happier with my Brother printer though. Hope this helps.

I also have a Brother printer. Ours is a Brother MFC-J435W. I bought it from Best Buy for around $65 and it prints, copies, scans and faxes.

If you buy Brother brand ink you can find deals for around $30 to replace all the cartridges (it uses 4); I was spending $60+ to replace the ink in our HP printer.

However we buy the generic ink from Amazon and find we can get 2 sets of cartridges for around $8 and the quality is the same in our opinion.
