Can you recommend a place to stay?

We are planning on taking our next Disney vacation in February 2011. Last time we stayed on site and LOVED how convenient it was!

For our upcoming trip we were considering bringing my mom with us, and I would LOVE some cost effective ideas on somewhere we could stay that would allow her to have a bit of privacy.

We prefer to not rent a car- so it would have to be somewhere that offers transportation to the Disney parks.

Or, are we better off just sharing one moderate room or trying to save for two value rooms?

A car is pretty much mandatory if offsite. I have yet to hear of a hotel where the transportation cost is less than the cost of a car for 4 people. Most of the locations that used to offer free shuttles are now gone (someone will chime in if they are still out there), and the per person cost of the shuttles when added up is more than a compact car rental and $14/day parking. The convenience of a car is much greater than hours wasted waiting for shuttle buees to off site hotels.

I would pick a resort on South end if I-Drive or along Irlo Bronson (Vistanas are great, but lots of other high-end choices). There is really relatively light traffic to the parks from there (avoid getting on I-4). Drive time is 5-10 minutes. Shuttle time could be 1 hour (they stop at multiple resorts).

Even taking into account the cost of a car you should be ahead offsite. You can find amazing TS or Vacation condo deals out there that will offer more space and comfort than a room at a Moderate or 2 Value Disney Room. Do some math on the whole trip cost, and you should be ahead offsite, especially if you are willing to cook a few meals (these units generally have full kitchens after all!).

i would look for a condo or villa with a couple of rooms, it means you all have your own space you can go to, as well as a couple of communal ones (kitchen, living room, private pool if you have a villa)

a car would be required for this, but would be cheaper than 2 rooms onsite, plus you can go to the supermarket and eat offsite too.

We much prefer on-site. We always drive but we never move our car after we get there since we use Disney transportation. You can get a family suite at the All Stars music, a cabin at Fort Wilderness, or a suite. It really depends on how many are going & how close you want to be. We took my mother once & we just got 2 rooms at one of the value hotels

I would get a cabin at Fort Wilderness. I believe the Disney transportation system will be easier for your Mom to use. I would never stay off site again-the magical experience never ends!!! Plus, the Magical Express from the airport saves on a rental car. Just don't expect your luggage to get there as soon as you do.

You can watch lots of your money "magically" disappear by staying at a cabin or suite on property or you can get a 2 bedroom at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for around $100 a night. They have 2 bathrooms, a living room and a full kitchen.

The resort is located next to the Caribbean Beach resort and has free shuttle service to the parks.

Anyway, as I said in the PM, you will need a car anywhere offsite. The condo plus car should be much less than 2 rooms, but slightly more than 1. If you get a good deal through Travelocity or something, the car could be really cheap.
