We've been to York Beach, Maine about 3 times and really enjoy the town.

From your experience, can you recommend a nice place to stay along the coast of Maine? We have two daughters 6 & 9 so it needs to be kid friendly.

We would like the spot to have a pool. Other than that, as long as the room is clean that is all that matters.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you been to Ogunquit? (I think I am spelling it right). We spent a weekend there last year and really liked it. My girls loved walking along the beach and there is a path along what is called the "Marginal Way" where they climbed on the rocks and loved it. We walked to town at night, got ice cream, played mini golf, ate lobster of course, nothing too wild but a nice family trip.

The town seemed family friendly although a bit on the "upscale" side, if you know what I mean. Kennebunkport, where the former President lives, is just up the road. I can not remember the place we stayed, but I think there was a website that listed all the hotels. I would reccomend something along the "Marginal Way". It was an easy walk to town and my kids just loved those rocks!

the beach is beautiful, and the kids will love the honky tonk!
I'll be there in July!! Can't wait!!
The Royal Anchor resort is a very reasonable place (VERY clean)beautiful pool and right on the beach!! Can't do better than that at their prices($169/nite)
website is www.royalanchor.com

Come further and go to Mount Desert Island..... visit Acadia National Park.... it's beautiful!! There's more to Maine than the Southern tip! ;)

Wow, you guys are quick.!

Thanks for the tips so far. I will check into the different spots you mentioned.

Now I can't wait for summer! Maine, once again, here we come!

I second Mount Desert Island. My kids loved Acadia and keep asking to go back!!

Have fun planning!!

We will be at Moody Beach Maine for a week in August. I'd love ideas of what to visit while we are there. What did you do in York?

My family has been going to York Beach for the past 40 years (not me, I've only been going 27 years) and we just love it. Although, it is much busier now then it was years ago. It used to be really slow which was nice for a relaxing vacation but now all the other people are getting in on our "secret". We are going in the end of June and I can't wait ~ it's our "relaxing" vacation where Disney is our "fun" vacation. Anywhere in Maine is going to be great but if you stay in Ogunquit or maybe Wells you are right in the middle of where you can ride down to Kittery for the outlets or go on up the coast a little. Have a wonderful time wherever you choose :p

we rented a house last year in Bar Harbor. It was so beautiful. we could walk downtown, where there are some really nice shops. I didnt want to leave.

We enjoy Point Sebago Resort. It doesn't have a pool, but the lake is clean and there are tons of activities for kids (parachute play, sand sculpting, tie-dye shirt making, ceramics, t-ball, tennis, paddle boats and fishing to name a few). They also have hayrides and breakfasts with "Chippy" the chipmunk character. We like to stay in the park homes, they have their own deck and fire pit.

(Of course, we live 5 minutes from Old Orchard, so we NEVER go there. LOL!)

Another vote for Bar Harbor/Mt Desert Island area. My EXDH was from there and we had many trips there. It is beautiful in the summer time. IF you go make sure you stop by Jordons for Breakfast. They have the best blueberry pancakes around. There is Sand Beach (water is a little nippy), Cadillac MT to watch the sun rise, tons of buggy trails through the mountains, tons of little shops, sailing , whale watching , and sooooo many other things to do. I can tell you some nice hotel to check if you are interested.
My dd still goes up every summer with her Dad and loves it. I would probably go visit again too if i knew i wouldn't run in to EXDMIL. :p

Ay yah, Ms. Mermaid you are so right there!!!! Mt. Desert Island is probably my favorite place in the U.S. We try and spend time there every year. I feel like I haven't had a good year unless I come off an Acadia N.P. trail and sit at Jordan Pond House and have popovers and tea.

is the greatest area around........not far from anywheres....but the ocean is my favorite area......Baileys Island....Old Orchard Beach .....you can veg and listen to the ocean and the fog horns...or go and play in the palace playland and have fun like the old days....I hate winters here but the summers are out of site

DS & I go camping every year at Kings & Queens campground in Lebanon, Maine

It is gorgeous isn't it FigmentVI? Bar Harbor is dotted with Bed and Breakfasts....The Bar Harbor Inn is right on the water..... Thurston's Lobster Pound on the OTHER side of the Island has the BEST lobster I have EVER had. You can watch them unload it from their boat!! Now that is FRESH! They boil it in seawater and serve it with melted butter (but IMO it is so fresh, you really don't NEED the butter:eek: BELIEVE IT). We camp at The Narrows Too at least once every summer.... people from ALL over the world come to Mt. Desert (that's DESERT as in "he deserted the army- Not desert like "the Sahara is a desert) It's in our backyard so we try to enjoy it frequently!

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions! I will have fun searching the different locations on the internet. If anyone has any links to different hotels/specific areas in Maine I will be happy to check them out.

The York Zoo is really cute. It is such a neat addition to the town. My girls really enjoyed it. It wasn't busy at all and is kept up really well.

Take a trip and check it out this summer:D

That's too funny that you posted this as I have the same question! :) We hope to go in August and I've just started looking for places. (Our kids are DS8 & DD4)

Thanks for saving me the post! :)

I agree with those who are suggesting Acadia National Park. It is worth every minute of the drive - it is amazing. You can go biking or hiking on the meticulously maintained carriage paths (you can bring your own bikes, or rent - there are tons of rental places.) It is my absolute favorite place to bike - and it has a variety of trails for different skill levels. The view from the top of Cadillac is breathtaking. We usually do the B&B thing so I can't really help you with accomodations (we have never stayed anywhere with a pool) but there are many hotels in Bar Harbor and right outside, so you should be able to find someplace.

I also heartily recommend the Boothbay Harbor area - DH family has a summer home there. Lots of fun. Don't limit yourself to the Southern tip of Maine - there is so much more, and if you really want to do outlets, you can hit Kittery on the way home!

ps- can you tell that I miss the East coast??
